A Wider Galaxy Z Fold May Take Center Stage as Samsung Unpacked Begins

Samsung’s second Galaxy Unpacked event of 2026 is expected to put its foldable strategy under close scrutiny, with a wider-format Galaxy Z Fold device among the products rumored to appear. The event takes place in London on July 22, although Samsung has not confirmed the names of the devices planned for the stage.

The most closely watched possibility is the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which is rumored to move beyond the familiar book-style approach of earlier Fold models. It may feature a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner display and a 5.5-inch cover screen.

A Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset is also expected for the standard model. Those specifications remain unconfirmed, but they point to a possible redesign rather than a routine annual update.

Three Foldables Are Reportedly in Contention

Reports compiled by Gadgets360 indicate that Samsung could introduce three foldable phones during the presentation. The rumored lineup includes the Galaxy Z Fold 8, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8.

Model Reported Position Reported Detail
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wider-format foldable 7.6-inch inner screen and 5.5-inch cover screen
Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra Flagship foldable 5,000mAh battery and 45W wired charging
Galaxy Z Flip 8 Clamshell foldable Minor upgrades are expected

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra is rumored to occupy the flagship position and may be the true successor to the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It is said to have a 5,000mAh battery, support for 45W wired charging, and peak display brightness of up to 3,600 nits.

The Galaxy Z Flip 8 is also expected to be part of the event, though available information suggests more limited changes. One report has indicated that this could be Samsung’s final year of releasing a clamshell-style foldable.

Wearables Could Share the Spotlight

Samsung may also use the event to reveal the Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2. The Ultra model is rumored to receive more substantial upgrades in display capability, battery endurance, and physical durability.

The Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could offer display brightness of up to 5,000 nits, an 800mAh battery, and an IP69K rating. By comparison, the Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to receive more incremental changes.

Samsung has said its upcoming devices will combine AI-based experiences with innovative hardware. The company presents that direction as a way to make device use more personal and adaptive.

Smart Glasses May Receive an Early Preview

Beyond phones and watches, Samsung could provide an early look at its long-rumored smart glasses. Samsung has previously confirmed that it is developing wearable products with fashion brands Warby Parker and Gentle Monster.

The glasses are expected to sit within the Android XR ecosystem alongside the Galaxy XR headset. A preview would broaden the company’s Unpacked focus beyond mobile phones and watches toward immersive computing devices.

The Galaxy Unpacked keynote begins at 2:00 p.m. BST, or 6:30 p.m. WIB. It will be streamed through Samsung.com, Samsung Newsroom, and Samsung’s official YouTube channel.
