Poco F6 Review: Powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 Gaming Phone Under $350 Worth It?

Author: Qoo Media

The Poco F6 emerges as a strong contender in the midrange gaming smartphone segment. Priced at around 5 million Indonesian Rupiah (approximately $330), it features the powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, promising impressive performance for gamers on a budget.

This latest Poco addition upgrades several aspects compared to its predecessor. It boasts faster processing power, a richer display, and quicker charging capabilities. However, competition remains stiff, especially from its sibling, the Poco X6 Pro, which offers similar features at a slightly lower price.

Performance and Gaming Experience

Powered by Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, the Poco F6 scores about 1.5 million points on AnTuTu 10 benchmarks. The device comes with LPDDR5X RAM options of 8GB or 12GB and utilizes UFS 4.0 storage technology. Such specifications place it firmly in the flagship tier for performance within its price category. Mobile Legends players can enjoy ultra settings at 120 fps without any lag.

In PUBG Mobile, the phone maintains an ultra extreme setting but experiences a slight drop to 90 fps after 15 minutes of gameplay. Meanwhile, Genshin Impact at its highest graphics settings sustains around 50 fps after 20 minutes. This suggests Poco prioritizes thermal management to keep the device cool during intense gaming sessions.

Cooling System and Battery Life

The cooling system includes liquid cooling combined with eight temperature sensors near critical components. This advanced setup enables the phone to detect temperature rises and reduce performance to prevent overheating. Even after playing Genshin Impact on the highest settings for 30 minutes, the Poco F6’s body temperature only reaches about 42 degrees Celsius (107.6°F).

Equipped with a 5000 mAh battery, the device offers excellent endurance. Playing Mobile Legends at 120 fps for 30 minutes consumes just 10% battery, PUBG uses 13-14%, and Genshin Impact drains 14%. Streaming YouTube for one hour consumes only 6%. The 90-watt charger replenishes the battery fully in about 38 minutes, with 38% charge achieved in 10 minutes.

Display and Visuals

The Poco F6 features a vibrant display with a resolution of 1.5K and supports Dolby Vision for enhanced color quality. However, it lacks LTPO technology, restricting its refresh rate options to 60 Hz or 120 Hz, unlike competitors that can scale down to as low as 1 Hz for better power efficiency. For some apps such as YouTube, the display runs at 60 Hz despite the capability of 120 Hz, suggesting potential for future software optimizations. Gorilla Glass Victus protects the screen, and the bezels remain slim.

Camera and Multimedia Features

The rear camera setup includes a 50 MP main sensor and an 8 MP ultrawide lens. The front camera has a 20 MP sensor. Photos taken under good lighting conditions appear detailed and natural in color without noticeable yellow or green hues. Low-light performance, however, falls short, with reduced brightness and diminished details.

Stereo speakers provide loud audio output, although bass performance is weak with a treble-heavy sound profile. Additional features include NFC, gyro sensors, vibration motor, and IP64 splash resistance.

Design and Build Quality

Poco offers the F6 in three attractive colors: black, green, and titanium gray. The smartphone’s body is made of plastic but features a premium finish that mimics metal. Physical buttons for power and volume are on the right edge, with an IR blaster on top and USB-C and dual speakers at the bottom. The dual nano SIM tray adds network flexibility.

The device runs on Hyper OS, which will receive three years of major updates and four years of security patches. Though the system includes ads, users expect better filtering in future updates to reduce unwanted content such as loan or gambling-related promotions.

Value Comparison with Competitors

Comparing Poco F6 to the Poco X6 Pro 5G, which costs slightly less than 5 million IDR (about $330), the performance difference is minimal. The X6 Pro offers similar advantages with 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage, making it a viable alternative.

In contrast, the Realme GT6, priced $40-$60 higher, delivers an LTPO display, larger battery, and better camera setups. Nevertheless, Poco F6’s significantly lower price adds strong value for budget-conscious users.

While Poco F6 presents compelling specifications and improvements over its predecessor, its appeal is less automatic than previous models. Potential buyers benefit from evaluating their preferences and budget carefully since sibling and competitor models offer close alternatives with distinct strengths.
