AI Notification Summaries Expand Beyond Google Pixel, Now Available on More Android Phones

Android phones will soon support AI-powered notification summaries on a wider range of devices beyond Google Pixel. This feature, which debuted with Android 16 and launched first on Pixel phones last month, is now set to appear on devices from other manufacturers like Samsung.

Currently, Google Pixel users receive AI-generated summaries that condense long text messages and group chats into short, glanceable snippets. The feature targets improving notification management by presenting key information without opening lengthy conversations.

Unlike Apple’s iOS notification summary feature, Google limits this AI summary exclusively to chat apps. Users should not expect AI-generated summaries for news or other notification types at this stage.

Google explains that their AI notification summary reduces long messages and group conversations into digestible pieces, enhancing user convenience and minimizing notification overload. Alongside this, Android 16 introduces a new notification control system that automatically groups and mutes "low priority" notifications related to promotions, news, and social media alerts.

Additional Android 16 Updates

Android 16 offers several new customization options for the home screen, including custom icon shapes and personalized themes. The update also expands the dark mode functionality to automatically darken apps that do not natively support dark themes.

Parental controls have been consolidated into a single settings menu where guardians can manage screen time, app usage, and create downtime schedules more efficiently.

Other global updates include a fraud detection feature called Circle to Search and upgrades to the Google Phone app. The app now lets users mark calls as urgent to alert family or friends—but both parties must use Android devices with Google Phone set as their default dialer for this to work.

Accessibility Improvements and Features

Android has enhanced accessibility with features like Expressive Captions, which captures the emotional tone of live speech. Initially available on YouTube videos in English uploaded after October, it tags emotions such as “[joyful]” or “[sad]” during live streams.

Further accessible controls include enabling voice dictation with the TalkBack screen reader by double-tapping with two fingers on Gboard. Users can also activate Voice Access hands-free by saying, “Hey Google, start Voice Access,” eliminating the need to tap the screen manually.

Google has also expanded Fast Pair technology to hearing aids, enabling seamless one-tap connection of LE Bluetooth hearing aids to Android devices. This feature first launched with Demant hearing aids and is expected to extend to Starkey devices by early 2026.
