Official List: Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO Phones That Won’t Get Android 17 Update

Xiaomi has officially announced a list of Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO smartphones that will no longer receive the Android 17 update. This decision follows the end of the global HyperOS update cycle based on Android 16. The company intends to focus on flagship and selected mid-range devices for future Android versions.

The main reason behind this move is hardware limitations found in many entry-level and mid-range models. Starting in 2026, only flagship and certain mid-tier Xiaomi devices will get Android updates to ensure optimal system stability, performance, and power efficiency on compatible hardware.

Devices Confirmed Not to Receive Android 17

Based on Xiaomi’s End of Life (EOL) update policy and guidance from Android Enterprise Recommended, the following devices will not be upgraded to Android 17:

  1. POCO Smartphones:

    • POCO M7 Pro 5G
    • POCO M6 Pro 4G
    • POCO X6 5G
  2. Redmi Note Series:

    • Redmi Note 14 5G
    • Redmi Note 13 Pro (4G and 5G versions)
    • Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G
  3. Redmi Series & C Series:

    • Redmi 13
    • Redmi 14C
  4. Tablets:
    • Redmi Pad Pro
    • Redmi Pad SE 8.7
    • Redmi Pad SE 8.7 4G

Implications for Users and Security Support

Even though these devices will not receive the Android 17 update, Xiaomi assures continued stability for the remainder of their lifecycle. Users will still get security patches, although the support period will be shorter than what flagship models enjoy. This means fundamentals like system integrity and protection against vulnerabilities will remain intact for some time.

However, owners should note that missing out on Android 17 means losing new functionalities related to system enhancements, AI improvements, and better power management brought by Google’s latest OS. Still, these devices remain suitable for daily use as long as security updates continue.

Most of the devices in this list were initially priced in the mid-to-low segment, ranging from $130 to $280. These affordable devices therefore are more limited in terms of future software support compared to higher-end models.

Industry Trend: Prioritizing Stability Over Frequent Updates

Xiaomi’s strategy aligns with a broader global trend among smartphone makers prioritizing software stability and security rather than pushing every new Android version across all devices. This approach allows manufacturers to allocate development resources more efficiently and better manage user experience quality.

For consumers seeking longer Android update support, Xiaomi recommends considering flagship or officially supported models with extended OS upgrade promises. This ensures access to the latest features and improved longevity in security maintenance.

By narrowing lengthy update support to flagship and select mid-range devices, Xiaomi aims to balance performance, security, and resource management in its product portfolio. Users with affected devices can still expect reliable daily operation supported by ongoing security patches, despite the absence of Android 17.
