MacBook Neo Disrupts Entry-Level Market, Apple’s Most Affordable Laptop Packs A18 Pro Power

Apple has launched the MacBook Neo, marking the cheapest MacBook ever released by the company. Starting at just $599 (around Rp 10.1 million), this new laptop is targeted at the entry-level market dominated by Chromebooks and mid-range Windows laptops.

Pre-orders began on March 4, 2026, with official retail availability set for March 11, 2026. The MacBook Neo expands Apple’s laptop lineup alongside the Pro and Air series, offering a budget-friendly option without compromising on performance.

Pricing and Configurations

Apple offers two primary configurations for the MacBook Neo to cater to different user needs:

  1. MacBook Neo Base: Features 8GB of RAM and 256GB of SSD storage, equipped with the Magic Keyboard. It is priced at Rp 10.1 million (~$599).
  2. MacBook Neo Plus: Includes 8GB RAM and a larger 512GB SSD, along with Touch ID and the Magic Keyboard. This variant costs Rp 11.8 million (~$702).

Additionally, Apple extends an education discount, bringing the price to $499 (about Rp 8.4 million) for students and educators, making it one of the most affordable Apple laptops for academic use.

Advanced Chipset Technology

The MacBook Neo is the first Apple laptop powered by the A18 Pro chip, previously unveiled in the iPhone 16 Pro. Manufactured using advanced 3nm process technology, the A18 Pro features a 6-core CPU and a 5-core GPU. Apple claims this chip delivers performance 50% faster than the latest Intel Core Ultra 5th-gen processors found in competing Windows laptops.

The device also includes a 16-core Neural Engine designed to accelerate on-device AI operations up to three times faster than previous generations. This is essential for enhancing the new macOS Tahoe experience, which leverages Apple Intelligence to improve system responsiveness and efficiency.

Display and Battery

The MacBook Neo sports a 13-inch Liquid Retina display, offering a resolution of 2408 x 1506 pixels and brightness levels of up to 500 nits. Apple continues its fanless design approach, ensuring silent operation. The device boasts an impressive battery life of up to 16 hours for continuous wireless web usage.

Design and Connectivity

Apple delivers a fresh aesthetic with the MacBook Neo available in four vibrant colors: Silver, Blush (pink), Citrus (yellow), and Indigo (blue). Weighing only 1.2 kg, the laptop features a durable chassis made from recycled aluminum, reinforcing Apple’s commitment to sustainability.

Connectivity options include dual USB-C ports with DisplayPort support, a 3.5mm headphone jack, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 6. The machine is also equipped with a 1080p FaceTime HD camera accompanied by a dual-microphone array, enhancing video call quality for remote meetings and online classes.

Market Impact and Positioning

Priced in the Rp 10 million range, the MacBook Neo is poised to reshape the global laptop market by offering an affordable Apple device that broadens access to macOS. This move positions Apple to better compete against existing Windows and Chromebook entrants in the budget segment.

This product fills a gap for users who desire Apple’s ecosystem but are constrained by price. Its blend of modern chip technology, efficient performance, and attractive design makes the MacBook Neo a viable option for students, professionals, and casual users alike seeking value without sacrificing quality.
