Vivo’s next flagship line is being linked to an unusual shift in model naming, with leaks suggesting the company may move directly to the X500 series instead of continuing with the expected numbering pattern. The detail has drawn attention because the omission is believed to be tied to the number 4, which is often avoided in some cultures.
The early information comes from Digital Chat Station, a well-known leaker, and was shared through Weibo before being picked up by GSM Arena. According to the leak, Vivo is preparing several X500 variants with different display sizes, indicating a broader product strategy rather than a single standard flagship model.
A compact flagship display is in the mix
One of the reported Vivo X500 models is said to use a 6.37-inch flat LTPO OLED display. The panel is also tipped to carry 1.5K resolution, which should help maintain sharp visuals despite the smaller form factor.
That size stands out in a market where premium phones often keep getting larger. For users who want a flagship device that feels easier to hold and more practical for one-handed use, the compact screen size could become a major selling point.
A larger option is also said to be under development
Alongside the smaller model, Vivo is reportedly working on a version with a much bigger 6.83-inch flat LTPO OLED display. This panel is said to offer 2K resolution, placing it in a more entertainment-focused category.
The larger variant appears aimed at users who value a wider screen for watching videos, gaming, or handling other content-heavy tasks. Based on the leaked details, some observers expect this model to be positioned as the X500 Pro or a higher-tier version in the lineup.
Digital Chat Station also mentioned a third model that remains in internal development. It is said to feature a 6.59-inch flat LTPS OLED display with 1.5K resolution, although it is still unclear whether it will reach the market or remain as an internal prototype.
What the leaked lineup suggests about Vivo’s strategy
If the information is accurate, Vivo seems to be shaping the X500 series around different usage preferences instead of relying on a single flagship formula. The 6.37-inch version would likely appeal to buyers who prefer comfort and portability, while the 6.83-inch model would serve those who prioritize a larger viewing area.
This kind of split is common among major smartphone brands that want wider market coverage without losing their premium identity. By offering distinct screen sizes and display tiers, the X500 lineup could give Vivo more flexibility in the flagship segment.
Vivo’s recent flagship moves add context
Attention around the X500 leaks also comes as Vivo has recently shown its high-end capabilities through the Vivo X300 Ultra. The device was officially introduced in China and quickly stood out for combining a Zeiss 200MP camera setup with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.
The X300 Ultra leans strongly into photography with a design that resembles a pancake lens, paired with a ridged body texture and silver trim for a more premium look. Its camera system includes a 14mm 50MP ultra-wide camera using a Sony LYTIA 818 sensor, a 35mm 200MP main camera based on a Sony LYTIA 901 sensor, and an 85mm 200MP telephoto camera with a Samsung HP0 sensor.
All three cameras support OIS, and Vivo also prepares two external teleconverter modules developed with Zeiss. On the hardware side, the phone offers up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. Power comes from a 6600mAh battery with 90W wired charging and 40W wireless charging.
For now, Vivo has not provided any official information about the X500 launch schedule or pricing. Even so, if the company follows its usual pattern, the flagship series would likely debut in China first before expanding to other markets, including Indonesia.
