Vivo has introduced the Y500s in China, and the device makes a clear statement about what this mid-range phone is meant to prioritize. Instead of chasing only raw performance or a complicated camera setup, Vivo is leaning heavily on battery endurance, durability, and practical everyday use.
That direction is visible from the start of the specification sheet. The Y500s comes with a 7,200 mAh battery, 44W fast charging, and IP68 plus IP69 protection, a combination that gives the phone a more premium-feeling profile than many devices in its class.
Battery life sits at the center of the Y500s
The most prominent feature is the 7,200 mAh battery, which is unusually large for a mid-range smartphone. Vivo pairs that capacity with 44W fast charging to help reduce the inconvenience that often comes with bigger batteries.
The company also says the phone uses Blue Ocean 3 battery technology. According to Vivo, this system is designed to maintain battery safety across different temperature conditions, including use between minus 20 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius.
Vivo further claims the battery can still retain more than 80 percent of its capacity after 1,600 charging cycles. In practical terms, the company links that level of durability to roughly six years of normal use.
A focus on durability extends beyond the battery
Battery endurance is not the only area where the Y500s is built to feel tough. The phone carries IP68 and IP69 certification, which indicates stronger protection against water and dust than what is usually expected in the mid-range segment.
That protection is paired with everyday usability touches such as stereo speakers, a water-cleaning mode for the speaker, and a fingerprint sensor integrated into the power button. These additions reinforce the idea that Vivo is positioning the Y500s as a practical device for users who want less concern about exposure and daily wear.
