Apple’s smallest Mac desktop has become harder to buy just as interest in AI-focused machines keeps rising. The company has removed the cheapest Mac Mini M4 configuration from its online store, and the entry point now starts at USD 799.
That lower-priced model had been the most affordable way into the Mac Mini lineup. It was listed at USD 599 and came with 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.
Higher starting price, tighter availability
With the USD 599 option gone, Apple’s current starting configuration for the Mac Mini M4 now sits at USD 799. At that price, buyers get 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, which matches the price level of the previous 512GB model.
Availability is already limited across several configurations. On Apple’s site, the Mac Mini M4 with 512GB storage is shown as out of stock, and orders placed today are estimated to arrive around the second or third week of June.
That timeline may slip further if supply pressure continues. The 256GB version was already marked unavailable earlier, so the newly listed entry model is not yet widely reachable for buyers.
Pressure is spreading beyond the base model
The shortage is not limited to the cheapest configuration. Apple has also marked several other Mac Mini M4 variants as unavailable, including models with 32GB of RAM.
Some of the remaining configurations list delivery estimates of 10-12 weeks. That suggests demand is still outpacing supply in multiple versions of the compact desktop.
The same pressure is being felt across Apple’s broader compact desktop lineup. Mac Studio is also said to be facing similar supply strain.
AI demand is driving the shift
The surge in demand is tied to the Mac Mini’s growing role in AI use cases. The machine has become popular among users who want to run local large language models, and it is also being used to run AI agents such as OpenClaw.
That usage trend has collided with shortages in components such as memory and storage. The result is a supply problem that Apple is struggling to absorb as interest in AI-ready hardware accelerates.
Tim Cook said the balance between supply and demand for the Mac Mini and Mac Studio may only be restored in the coming months. He described both products as strong platforms for AI and agentic services, while noting that customer recognition of that capability arrived faster than expected.
For now, Apple’s removed base model stands out as the clearest sign of the strain. The cheapest path into the Mac Mini M4 line has disappeared from the company’s store, and the remaining options are still dealing with long waits.
