The most debated iPhone 18 wishes are no longer about raw speed or camera gains. Many Apple users are now asking for changes that would affect everyday use more directly, from faster charging and longer battery life to a return of Touch ID.
That conversation has grown across user communities and online forums as attention shifts beyond the iPhone 17, which already brought 120 Hz displays to the full lineup and improved the camera system. If Apple follows its usual yearly release pattern, the iPhone 18 is expected in September, and that timing has only intensified discussion about what the next model should fix.
Charging speed remains the loudest complaint
Among all the demands, charging is still one of the biggest pain points. The iPhone 17 Pro introduced 40 W charging for the first time and can reach 50 percent in 20 minutes, but many users still see that as too slow.
Some Reddit users have even pointed to 100 W charging as the benchmark they want Apple to reach. That expectation is not entirely unrealistic, since iPhone already uses USB-C, and the port technically supports up to 240 W through USB Power Delivery.
Battery life matters more than thinness
Longer battery life is another request that keeps coming up. Even with steady improvements in modern phones, many users still feel a device should last through heavy daily use without worry.
Some Apple users are open to a slightly thicker iPhone if that trade-off delivers significantly better endurance. There is also interest in silicon-carbon battery technology, which is already being used by some companies to fit 10,000 mAh cells without making phones feel overly heavy or bulky.
Healthier batteries over more years of use
The demand is not only for bigger capacity. Many users also want the battery to hold up better over time so the phone stays practical for years before performance starts to drop.
Apple currently says the lithium-ion battery in iPhone is designed to retain at least 80 percent of its original capacity after 1,000 full charge cycles. Some users want that figure to rise to 3,000 cycles so battery degradation would happen much more slowly.
Privacy and a cleaner front design
Display changes are also part of the wishlist, especially for people who use their phones in public. A privacy screen like the one on the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is one of the more discussed ideas because it makes the screen harder to view from certain angles.
Users are not asking for a clip-on solution. They want something built into the device and software itself, so the feature can be turned on or off as needed.
Touch ID and the end of the notch era
On the design side, two requests come up again and again: a screen without a notch and the return of fingerprint authentication. Apple has already moved from notch to Dynamic Island, but some users now want a front that looks completely clean.
Touch ID is part of that conversation, whether placed under the display, built into the power button like on the fourth-generation iPad Air, or integrated into the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 series and newer models. There is also talk that Apple may move away from Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 by using under-display Face ID and a small punch-hole camera in the upper-left corner.
If that direction happens, the iPhone 18 could mark one of Apple’s biggest design shifts since the notch arrived with iPhone X and later gave way to Dynamic Island on the company’s flagship lineup.
