Sony’s next flagship is starting to look less mysterious, and one detail in the latest leak stands out immediately: the Xperia 1 VIII is still said to keep a 3.5 mm headphone jack. In a market where premium phones have largely moved on from wired audio, that alone makes the device unusual.
The newly surfaced render set gives the clearest look yet at Sony’s direction for the phone. It suggests that the company is not chasing the same design language as most rivals, even while refreshing the rear camera layout in a more noticeable way.
A familiar Xperia shape, but with a new camera identity
The leaked images shared by Roland Quandt show the Xperia 1 VIII in three launch colors: Graphite Black, Ionite Silver, and Garnet Red. There is also talk of a Gold version that may arrive as an exclusive option, which would add another premium touch to the lineup.
Among the colors, Garnet Red appears to be the most eye-catching. The other two shades are more restrained, which fits Sony’s long-standing preference for a clean and understated flagship aesthetic.
The rear design is where the biggest change appears to be happening. The phone is said to follow CAD-based renders that had already circulated, but the camera module now looks more like a distinct island than before.
Three rear cameras, with a reshaped module
Sony reportedly uses a new camera island that houses three sensors. The setup is described as an ultrawide 16mm camera, a 24mm main camera, and a 70mm telephoto lens.
The telephoto sensor is said to use a size between 1/3.0 inches and 1/2.0 inches. That detail reinforces the idea that Sony is focusing its biggest visual update on the back of the device rather than changing the overall Xperia formula.
Even with that redesign, the phone still appears to stay close to the brand’s usual identity. Sony seems to be adjusting the camera area more aggressively while keeping the rest of the device recognizable to longtime Xperia users.
Sony keeps the features that set it apart
The front of the Xperia 1 VIII remains firmly in familiar territory. The phone is said to keep a 6.5-inch OLED display, a tall and slim body, and the thick top and bottom bezels that have defined the Xperia line for years.
That choice puts Sony on a different path from many competitors that have pushed toward nearly bezel-less fronts. Instead of chasing a full-screen look at all costs, Sony appears to be preserving space for its preferred design and component layout.
The 3.5 mm headphone jack is the other major differentiator, and it is not just a minor leak detail. It had already been confirmed through FCC listing information, which makes its return one of the strongest signals that Sony is still listening to users who value wired audio.
For a premium phone, that port matters because it is now uncommon. Combined with Sony’s multimedia-focused image, the jack helps reinforce the Xperia 1 VIII as a device aimed at people who care about both audio and display quality.
Premium pricing, with a bundled headphone package
Pricing is expected to land at a very high level. In Germany, the Xperia 1 VIII is tipped to start above €1,800, while in the UK it is expected to go above £1,700.
Those figures are said to include a bundle with the WH-1000XM6 headphones. That means the actual standalone phone price still needs official confirmation, and the bundle may be doing some of the heavy lifting in how the package is positioned.
The timing is also close. The official launch is scheduled for tomorrow, and first shipments are expected to begin around 26 June, leaving only a short gap between announcement and availability.
With the design now more visible than before, attention is shifting to how Sony will present the final product. The new camera island, the color choices, the preserved headphone jack, and the premium bundle strategy all suggest that the Xperia 1 VIII will remain very much a Sony flagship, but one with a more clearly refreshed look.
