Red Magic’s next gaming tablet is not being canceled, but it is also not ready to get a launch date. The company has confirmed that the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro will arrive after the Red Magic 11S Pro+, which is still scheduled to debut on 18 May 2026.
That delay points to an internal development issue rather than a product shutdown. Jiang Chao, General Manager of Red Magic, said the tablet is being held back by a “bottleneck internal” that still needs to be resolved, which is why the brand has not committed to a firm release timeline.
Cooling is the biggest challenge
The most ambitious part of the project appears to be its thermal design. Red Magic is said to be building the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro around an active turbo fan spinning at 18,000 RPM, paired with a composite liquid-metal vapor chamber.
That kind of cooling setup can support high performance, but it also raises the level of engineering work required. Red Magic has to balance temperature control, noise, and long-term component durability, especially for users who will game for extended sessions.
The cooling system is not the only area that demands precision. Hardware and software must also work together cleanly if the tablet is to avoid throttling under load.
High-end hardware puts more pressure on tuning
The display and core hardware make the tablet look like a serious gaming device on paper. Red Magic is equipping it with a 9-inch OLED panel with a 185Hz refresh rate, along with Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, an 8,300 mAh battery, and extreme fast charging support.
Those specifications make the device stand out in the gaming tablet category, but they also increase the need for careful optimization. A fast display is only useful if the system can keep gameplay stable, and that is where thermal behavior becomes even more important.
The presence of such aggressive specifications helps explain why Red Magic may be taking more time before announcing a launch window. A device built for sustained gaming performance has less room for error than a standard tablet.
Other factors may be slowing the rollout
The delay may not be tied only to product tuning. Regulatory certification and supply chain work could also be part of the equation, especially for components such as high-density batteries and liquid-metal-based cooling modules.
Production strategy may matter as well. Red Magic could be prioritizing smartphones first because demand is higher and manufacturing is simpler. That would give the company a more controlled path while the tablet continues through development.
There is also a business reason to separate the launches. If two flagship products arrive too close together, attention from media and consumers can split between them.
By giving the Red Magic 11S Pro+ the spotlight first, the company can keep its launch message clear. It can also gauge market reaction to the smartphone before deciding how to move forward with the gaming tablet.
Jiang Chao said further details will come during or after the 11S Pro+ launch event. That means the next key moment to watch is around 18 May 2026, when Red Magic is set to unveil the smartphone first and potentially share the next update on the Gaming Tablet 5 Pro soon after.
