Georgia Basketball Lands $10 Million Gift From PrizePicks Founder, A New NIL-Era Power Move

The University of Georgia men’s basketball program is set to receive a major financial lift from one of its most prominent alumni. Adam Wexler, the founder of daily fantasy sports operator PrizePicks, is donating $10 million to support the Bulldogs, according to the school.

Georgia said the gift is the largest philanthropic commitment from a single donor in the history of the UGA Athletic Association. The money will help cover personnel and operating expenses in the men’s basketball program.

A major boost in the NIL era

The donation arrives during a period when college athletic programs are seeing larger private contributions tied to the changing landscape of name, image and likeness. Wexler said the timing makes donor support especially meaningful.

“There has never been a more interesting time in the history of collegiate athletics for donors to make a difference,” Wexler said in a release announcing the gift. He also said he hopes the donation becomes “the start of something much bigger for the Bulldog community.”

Wexler graduated from Georgia in 2007, and his family’s connection to the university also played a role. He said his father’s background as a former Georgia football player and track athlete helped deepen that bond with the school.

How the donation fits Georgia basketball’s current momentum

Wexler said basketball has always been his favorite sport, and he wants the gift to help Georgia continue its recent progress under coach Mike White. The Bulldogs have reached the NCAA tournament in each of the last two seasons.

White said the support will help the program chase a higher standard. “Our ultimate goal is to grow Georgia Basketball into a program that regularly competes at the highest levels,” he said in the school’s release.

The contribution also reflects how former athletes, alumni and business figures are becoming increasingly influential in college sports funding. Georgia’s announcement places Wexler’s gift among the most significant donor commitments in the program’s history.

Wexler’s background with PrizePicks and beyond

Wexler launched PrizePicks in 2015 and helped turn it into one of the leading daily fantasy sports operators in the country. He stepped down as CEO in 2024.

More recently, Wexler started The Hidden Jams, a nonprofit music discovery platform aimed at helping fans find new songs. His latest donation, though, puts the focus back on Georgia basketball and the resources needed to sustain its recent rise.
