“Tulsa King” is already looking beyond its fourth season, with a writers’ room for Season 5 now open, according to sources. The Sylvester Stallone-led Paramount+ series has mostly filmed in Atlanta so far, but production is now expected to shift to New York if the next season moves forward.
The relocation is being driven by both budget and story needs. New York has expanded its film tax incentive program twice in the last three years under Gov. Kathy Hochul, and the state now offers an $800 million annual program as it competes with stronger incentives in New Jersey and other states.
Why New York makes sense for the series
The tax structure is one reason the move is drawing attention. New York now offers a 30% rebate, which matches Georgia’s credit, and can go up to 40% for companies that invest at least $100 million.
The state has also widened coverage for above-the-line costs, which can make a major difference for large productions. For a show with the scale of “Tulsa King,” those incentives could help balance the cost of filming in a more expensive market.
The storyline also points back to New York
The narrative side of the move appears just as important. Stallone’s character, Dwight “The General” Manfredi, is originally from New York before Mafia associates exile him to Tulsa, Oklahoma.
That background gives the series a natural path back east, especially if future episodes push Dwight toward old enemies or unresolved business from his past. While Season 4 has not yet aired, the premise leaves room for the character to return to the city that shaped him.
Season 5 is not official yet
Even with the writers’ room open, Paramount+ has not formally renewed “Tulsa King” for Season 5. Still, the series has been one of the streamer’s more visible drama titles, which makes another season a realistic possibility.
Season 4 has only recently finished production, and no premiere date has been announced for it. Season 3 aired between September and November 2025, while Season 4 was announced before that season debuted.
A large crew and some behind-the-scenes changes
The series has supported a sizable production base in Atlanta, where about 250 crew members work on the show. Many of them have stayed with the production since it began.
The show has also seen internal changes over time, including the firing of more than two dozen crew members ahead of Season 4 under 101 Studios executive Scott Stone. Stone has served as the de facto showrunner on the series, since there has not been a traditional showrunner in place.
Part of a larger Taylor Sheridan lineup
“Tulsa King” remains one title in Taylor Sheridan’s growing Paramount+ slate, alongside series such as “Landman,” “Lioness,” “The Madison,” “Dutton Ranch,” and “Mayor of Kingstown.” The show is produced by Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios and distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
The series is executive produced by Sheridan, Stallone, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, Bob Yari, Jim McKay, Sheri Elwood, Ildy Modrovich and Keith Cox. Terence Winter served as head writer and executive producer on Season 4.
The cast for Season 3 included Martin Starr, Jay Will, Annabella Sciorra, Neal McDonough, Robert Patrick, Beau Knapp, Bella Heathcote, Chris Caldovino, McKenna Quigley Harrington, Mike “Cash Flo” Walden, Kevin Pollak, Vincent Piazza, Frank Grillo, Michael Beach, James Russo, Garrett Hedlund and Dana Delany, while Samuel L. Jackson appeared in multiple episodes as Russell Lee Washington, Jr. Jackson’s character is now set to lead the spinoff “Frisco King.”
