NBC has cleared out 11 shows in a broad round of cancellations, and one of the most surprising losses was Law & Order: Organized Crime. The series was the network’s eighth most-watched show, yet it still did not survive the latest cuts.
The decision has left fans and cast members processing a long goodbye, especially for Christopher Meloni’s Elliot Stabler. In an Instagram video, Meloni thanked viewers for supporting the character and said the ride had been a memorable one.
A surprising cut from NBC’s lineup
Law & Order: Organized Crime finished ahead of both The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins and The Paper, which were picked up for another season. That made its cancellation stand out even more, given how well it performed compared with other shows on the schedule.
Meloni said he wanted to thank fans “who not only helped give the character of Elliot Stabler life and longevity, but for sticking with him and welcoming him back.” He added that it was “a great ride” and said viewers helped give him a career he “never dreamed of.”

Earlier in the month, NBCUniversal’s President of Program Planning Strategy Jeff Bader signaled that The Hunting Party was in a vulnerable spot. He said the network was looking for places where it could grow and believed that time period needed to do better for the linear schedule.
He also said, “Nothing negative about Hunting Party, but for our linear schedule, we absolutely need to try and do a little bit better there.”
The cancellations have hit some fans hard, with many still hoping The Hunting Party could find a new home. For now, though, NBC’s reshaped slate shows just how wide the cutbacks reached across drama, daytime, and entertainment programming.
