Justin Bieber’s surprise arrival at the FIFA World Cup 2026 opener in Los Angeles turned into a talking point almost as quickly as the match itself. He attended the United States’ Group D clash against Paraguay at SoFi Stadium with Hailey Bieber, while social media quickly shifted to why the Canadian singer was at the U.S. opener instead of Canada’s own first game.
The couple spent much of the evening in the stands, where cameras repeatedly caught their reactions during the opening ceremony. Justin appeared relaxed and upbeat, but a lip-reading claim about Hailey added a different layer to the scene and fueled more attention online.
Hailey’s reported reaction drew the most curiosity
According to lip-reading expert Nicola Hickling, as cited by The Mirror US, Hailey appeared frustrated during part of the event. The report says she told Justin that she had already spoken to people about a situation and expected it to be resolved soon, while also questioning why it had not been fixed.
Justin allegedly replied that the situation was not being handled properly. One of their friends then commented on how intense the heat felt inside the venue, adding another detail to the exchange that fans later discussed online.
Justin embraced the spectacle inside SoFi Stadium
Justin was seen singing along, dancing before kick-off, and enjoying the stadium atmosphere as the tournament got underway. He wore a pink zip-up jacket, a beige cap, and oversized sunglasses, which only added to the attention he received from viewers inside the stadium and online.
Hailey sat beside him for much of the evening, talking with him and with friends as the opening ceremony unfolded. Their appearance, however, was never likely to stay a simple celebrity cameo once fans noticed the country-versus-country angle.
Fans focused on the Canada question
The online reaction mixed amusement with criticism. Some fans praised the couple’s appearance, while others joked that Justin looked as though he had just rolled out of bed before heading to the stadium.
More pointedly, several fans questioned why the Canadian star chose the United States’ opening match instead of Canada’s. One comment asked, “Wasn’t it in their own country but in the US’s?” while another wrote, “For the opening of his country, he’s not going, right?”
Another social media reaction summed up the mood around the celebrity crossover with, “Justin and Hailey at the World Cup? LA really gets every random crossover.” A different fan added, “Need the camera on them more”.
Talk of a possible final cameo is already growing
The World Cup appearance has also renewed speculation that Justin could surface again at the final. Betting markets have listed him among the favorites to appear as a surprise guest during the July 19 halftime show.
No official announcement has been made, but the entertainment lineup already includes Madonna, Shakira, and BTS. The halftime show is being curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and will support FIFA’s Global Citizen Education Fund.
