Bonnie Tyler has woken from the medically induced coma that followed her cardiac arrest, but her condition is still serious enough to keep her in intensive care in Portugal. Her team said the singer is improving, though doctors believe her recovery will take time.
On June 15, Tyler’s website shared that she is no longer in a coma and thanked fans for their support. The statement also said her family is asking for privacy while her medical team continues to monitor her closely.
What Her Team Has Confirmed
The update said any upcoming shows will be canceled for now, with hopes that the concerts planned for the fall may still go ahead. The statement added that doctors remain confident she will make a good recovery, even if the process is slow.
In May, Tyler was rushed to a hospital in Portugal for emergency surgery before being placed in a coma to help her heal. Fox News Digital previously confirmed that the coma was medically induced.
A Career Built On Staying On Stage
Tyler, born Gaynor Hopkins, first broke through in 1976 with “Lost In France” and later became a global star with “Total Eclipse of the Heart” and “Holding Out for a Hero.” She remained popular in Europe through the 1990s and later represented the U.K. at Eurovision in 2013 with “Believe In Me.”
She has continued touring in recent years as part of her Jubilee Tour, marking 50 years in the music industry. In January 2025, she told The Times that touring keeps her going and that she has “never stopped working.”
“I still get excited when I hear the song on the radio,” she told www.yahoo.com in April 2024. “Every time the eclipse comes, everyone all over the world, they play ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart,’ and I never get tired of singing it.”
Life Away From The Spotlight
Tyler has been married to former Olympic judo competitor and real estate developer Robert Sullivan since July 1973. The couple have no children together and split their time between homes in Wales and Portugal.
Her team said they will share more updates only when there are significant developments to report.
