Malia and Sasha Obama made a rare public appearance together as their family gathered for the opening of the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. The moment stood out not only because the sisters were seen together in public, but because each chose a distinctly different look for the event.
Malia wore a light gray blazer coat and matching skirt, finished with gray pointed-toe pumps. Her hair was worn down in braids and soft waves, giving her outfit a polished but relaxed feel.
Sasha took a more sculptural route, wearing a white off-the-shoulder top with an ankle-length skirt wrapped asymmetrically around her body. She added a large brown leather belt with an elaborate clasp, along with earrings, rings, and heeled sandals with beaded straps.
A Rare Public Reunion in Chicago
The sisters joined former President Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama at John Lewis Plaza for the opening event. It was the first time they had reunited in public in years, making the appearance especially notable for observers following the family.
The dedication ceremony for the new 19-acre campus in Jackson Park also drew a major lineup of performers, including Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Bono, and Jennifer Hudson. Former President Joe and Jill Biden, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and George W. and Laura Bush were also among the attendees.
Michelle Obama’s Tribute
Michelle Obama marked the occasion with a tribute to her daughters, saying, “To our daughters, Malia and Sasha, who will always be my babies. Even though we’re no longer playing hide and seek on the South Lawn with Bo, or hosting sleepovers in the solarium … You both have grown into such brilliant and beautiful young women, making your way out there in the world.”
She added, “Thank you for bringing so much joy and spirit and energy to a life you had no voice in choosing and for making us proud every step of the way.” The comments underscored how rare and meaningful the family’s joint appearance was at the presidential center opening.
