The Alameda County Fair is opening with more than rides and food stands this Friday. Visitors will also find a time capsule installation, a new 9/11 memorial exhibit, and early ticket pricing that is lower before the weekend begins.
The fair’s lineup mixes familiar county fair competitions with new displays meant to draw attention beyond the midway. Patch reports that the event will feature everything from livestock and crafts to a tribute to the future and a reflection on historic loss.
Competitions Span Agriculture, Baking, And Art
Fairgoers who like to compete can enter categories that include goats, rabbits, pigs, wine growing, crafting, baking, jewelry making, gardening, and painting. The event gives participants a chance to show off their work and, in some cases, win money.
Time Capsule Set For June 26
On June 26 at 1 p.m., visitors can watch the installation of the fair’s time capsule. It will hold memories, stories, and contributions from fair staff, volunteers, vendors, and community partners.
The capsule will stay sealed until 2076, turning this year’s fair into part of a much longer timeline.
New 9/11 Memorial Exhibit Adds A Reflective Stop
The new 9/11 Memorial Exhibit marks 25 years since the attacks and 250 years since America’s founding. It includes an original steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center after its collapse.
The display also features a Survivor Tree tribute inspired by the Callery pear tree found in the rubble. Visitors are invited to write a wish, message, or promise for the future and place it on the tree.
