Robert Wagner has marked what would have been his wedding anniversary with Natalie Wood by sharing a deeply personal image from their 1972 ceremony. The 96-year-old actor posted a throwback photograph showing the couple kissing, pairing it with a short message of remembrance.
“Memories♥️ Happy Anniversary Nat! More Than Love 💕,” Wagner wrote in the Instagram caption. He also tagged members of their family in the post.
A Marriage Remembered Twice
Wagner and Wood were married twice, first from 1957 to 1962 and again after reuniting in 1972. The anniversary post focused on their second wedding, preserving a moment from a relationship that remained central to both of their public legacies.
This was not the first time Wagner had used social media to honor Wood on their anniversary. In a previous July post, he shared another photo of the pair and wrote, “Always a special place in my heart. Happy Anniversary Nat! More Than Love.”
Wood’s Lasting Hollywood Legacy
Wood died at age 43 in 1981 during a boat trip to California’s Catalina Island. Her death was initially ruled an accidental drowning, according to www.yahoo.com.
At a press conference, Los Angeles coroner Dr. Thomas Noguchi said Wood had apparently fallen into the water and tried to climb aboard a dinghy. Vanity Fair reported that scratch marks on the inflatable boat led Noguchi to believe she had held onto its side but could not pull herself from the water while wearing a heavy parka.
Questions surrounding Wood’s death have continued to draw public attention over the years. Her daughter, Natasha Gregson Wagner, addressed the speculation in the 2020 documentary Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind.
“It’s outrageous and completely unacceptable that others have created this narrative about my dad and the night my mom died,” Natasha said, as reported by PEOPLE. “I know that if my mom had been in any kind of distress, he would have given his life for her.”
Wagner’s career has spanned decades across film and television, including roles in It Takes a Thief, Switch, Hart to Hart, Two and a Half Men, NCIS, and the Austin Powers films. His latest anniversary post offered a quiet tribute to Natalie Wood and the memories they shared.
