RATP Confirms No Traffic Disruption on December 2 Mobilization Day
The RATP announced that it does not anticipate any traffic disruptions on its network during the mobilization day scheduled for December 2. This assurance follows an inter-union call for a strike and demonstration focused on salary demands and austerity measures, issued by CGT, Solidaires, and FSU.
Unlike previous mobilizations in September and October, this latest call excludes the CFDT, France’s largest union, which may explain the expected normal service. Sophie Binet, a union representative, emphasized the importance of December 2 as a decisive moment for budget negotiations.
During the last mobilization on October 2, RATP services operated normally across most of the network. Only minor disturbances affected the RER within the RATP zone. Meanwhile, TGV and other regional trains experienced minimal interruptions.
In contrast, the September 18 mobilization caused significant disruptions in the Paris public transport system. Except for fully automated metro lines 1, 4, and 14, services were limited to peak hours only. Frequencies dropped sharply, with some lines operating at only one train per five during peak times, and several stations remained closed.
Bus operations were less impacted on September 18, with approximately 70% of the lines running normally or nearly so. Some metro lines, such as lines 9, 10, and 13, performed better than initially forecast, maintaining higher frequencies.
For commuters planning to use RATP services on December 2, these latest updates provide reassurance that travel will not be disrupted by the day’s protests. The RATP’s proactive communication aims to help passengers prepare accordingly for their journeys.
Transport users are encouraged to monitor official RATP channels for any last-minute updates related to the mobilization day. This approach ensures that all travelers stay informed despite the ongoing social movements.
