Prairie Farms Issues Milk Recall at Woodman’s Markets in Illinois and Wisconsin
Prairie Farms has recalled several hundred gallons of fat free milk distributed to Woodman’s Markets in Illinois and Wisconsin due to potential contamination. The milk may contain food-grade cleaning agents, posing a health risk if consumed.
The recall, announced by the Food and Drug Administration on November 25, targets specific gallons of Prairie Farms fat free milk produced at the Dubuque, Iowa facility. Approximately 320 gallons reached 18 Woodman’s stores, including several in Chicago suburbs and nearby Wisconsin cities.
Only a limited batch of milk with precise product codes is affected. The impacted product has a code date of December 8, contains the UPS code 7273023117, and is marked with the plant code PLT19-145. These units were produced between 5:51 p.m. and 9:23 p.m., according to the FDA.
Prairie Farms identified the quality control issue on November 24 and promptly initiated the recall. Customers who purchased milk matching the specified codes have been advised not to consume it. They should either dispose of the product or return it to the store for a refund.
The company confirmed all recalled products have been pulled from store shelves. NBC Chicago’s inquiries to Prairie Farms for further details remain unanswered as of now.
The recall affects Woodman’s Markets locations in several Illinois cities:
- Bloomingdale
- Buffalo Grove
- Carpentersville
- Lakemoor
- North Aurora
- Rockford
And in multiple Wisconsin cities:
- Appleton
- Beloit
- Green Bay
- Janesville
- Kenosha
- Madison
- Menomonee Falls
- Oak Creek
- Onalaska
- Racine
- Sun Prairie
- Waukesha
Consumers are urged to carefully check their milk cartons for the specified codes to ensure safety. This precaution aims to prevent potential illness from inadvertent consumption of the contaminated product.
The FDA continues to monitor the situation alongside Prairie Farms to guarantee affected products are removed and public health is protected. Woodman’s Markets have assisted in expediting the recall effort across involved stores.
