Look Back by Chainsaw Man’s Tatsuki Fujimoto to Get Live-Action Film Directed by Oscar Nominee Hirokazu Kore-eda

The acclaimed manga Look Back by Chainsaw Man’s creator Tatsuki Fujimoto is set for a live-action adaptation directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Hirokazu Kore-eda, scheduled for release in June. This announcement coincided with the debut of the manga’s latest chapter on Shonen Jump+, generating buzz among fans and critics alike.

Hirokazu Kore-eda, who also writes and edits the screenplay, brings his renowned storytelling expertise to this project. The production boasts a skilled team including composer Yuta Bandoh, cinematographer Senzo Ueno, and sound engineer Kazuhiko Tomita, ensuring a high-quality cinematic experience.

Look Back’s story revolves around Fujino, a talented fourth grader whose manga art captures her school’s attention. The plot explores her rivalry and friendship with Kyomoto, a hesitant student who contributes her own manga, adding emotional depth and artistic tension.

K2 Pictures, the film fund company founded by former Toei producer Muneyuki Kii, co-produces the film. This venture marks a collaboration with industry heavyweights such as MAPPA studio, known for the Chainsaw Man anime, and other prominent directors like Takashi Miike and Shunji Iwai.

Key members of the live-action staff include:

1. Art Direction by Shinsuke Kojima
2. Costume Design by Sacico Ito
3. Hair & Make-Up Supervision by Katsuhiko Yuumi
4. Assistant Director Kensei Nakayama
5. VFX Supervisor Rinto Ueda

The production also receives local support from Nikaho in the Akita Prefecture, reflecting community involvement in the project. Prior reports in May suggested Kore-eda’s involvement was underway before the Chainsaw Man anime film’s release, underscoring the director’s long-term vision.

Look Back’s adaptation is eagerly anticipated, expected to combine Fujimoto’s poignant narrative with Kore-eda’s delicate cinematic touch. The released visuals showcase a heartfelt and intimate tone, promising a faithful interpretation of the original manga’s themes of creativity and rivalry.
