Fairfield University has launched its annual Teddy Bears with Love Drive, inviting students, alumni, employees, and community members to donate plush toys by the December 19 deadline. Donated stuffed animals will be distributed to numerous children’s hospitals and charitable organizations both within the state and nationwide.
A collection box is placed at the Fairfield University Store to facilitate easy drop-off. This initiative has already seen considerable community support, including a recent donation of hundreds of stuffed animals from the Stepping Stones Museum.
Joe Romano, the museum’s CFO, whose family has close ties to Fairfield University, expressed enthusiasm about contributing. He shared, “It’s great to give back to the community. These stuffed animals go to hospitals for children. Any time you can help a child for the holidays or any time, it’s great.”
The Teddy Bears with Love Drive has established a strong tradition of generosity. Since its inception, it has collected more than 28,000 teddy bears and stuffed animals. This milestone highlights the ongoing commitment of Fairfield’s community and partners.
The drive’s impact extends beyond donations; it brings comfort and joy to children facing medical challenges. Receiving a plush toy can provide emotional relief during hospital stays and promote a sense of normalcy.
Participants wishing to support the drive can simply drop off new or gently used stuffed animals at the designated box in the campus store. This accessibility encourages broad participation across different groups within and around the university.
The annual giving effort demonstrates how collaborative initiatives can meaningfully affect vulnerable populations during the holiday season and beyond. It also strengthens community bonds through shared compassion and generosity.
