In the statement, Cocona shared, “I am AFAB transmasculine non-binary. Earlier this year, I had top surgery.” They explained that although they were assigned female at birth, the label never felt true to their identity. Cocona expressed the challenge of self-acceptance and how embracing their true self transformed their worldview and inner strength.
Cocona credited their fellow XG members, producer and label CEO Simon Jakops, and their parents for their ongoing support. “I am grateful for every miracle that brought us together,” Cocona said, emphasizing the importance of the community around them in this personal journey. XG is a seven-member group that debuted in 2022. It consists of Jurin, Chisa, Hinata, Harvey, Juria, Maya, and Cocona. The group is recognized for blending hip-hop and R&B styles to create a unique sound and vibrant performances.
