Abbott Elementary creator and star, Quinta Brunson, has launched the Quinta Brunson Field Trip Fund in collaboration with the School District of Philadelphia. The fund aims to provide free school trips to public school students, focusing on those from underserved communities.
This initiative, which kicked off on Giving Tuesday, seeks to remove financial barriers that prevent students from participating in educational outings. Brunson emphasized the lasting impact field trips had on her own education and personal growth. She said these experiences “opened my world, sparked my creativity, and helped me imagine a future beyond what I saw every day.”
Philadelphia’s public schools serve more than 117,000 students, many of whom lack access to out-of-classroom learning opportunities. The fund plans to utilize the city’s extensive network of museums and landmarks to enrich students’ educational experiences.
Brunson expressed pride in supporting local students through the initiative. She stated, “I’m proud to support Philadelphia students with experiences that remind them their dreams are valid and their futures are bright.”
The program highlights the importance of practical learning environments to inspire creativity and broaden students’ horizons. By offering free access to field trips, the fund aims to foster a deeper connection between education and real-world experiences.
Quinta Brunson, a Philadelphia native, hopes these opportunities will help students see a world bigger and more exciting than their immediate surroundings. She believes that exposure to new environments plays a crucial role in shaping children’s ambitions and possibilities.
The fund will specifically cover all costs associated with school trips, ensuring equitable access across the district. It stands as a strategic effort to complement formal education with enriching extracurricular activities.
Philadelphia’s educational leaders and community supporters have welcomed this collaboration, recognizing its potential to positively influence student engagement and motivation. The Quinta Brunson Field Trip Fund serves as a model for integrating community-driven resources into public education systems.
