Maize & Blue Set to Compete in Oregon as B1G Play Continues

The University of Michigan women’s basketball team, currently ranked No. 6, is set to resume Big Ten play with a road game at Oregon. This marks the first time the Wolverines will compete in the state of Oregon, facing the Ducks on Monday evening at Matthew Knight Arena in Eugene.

Michigan carries a strong 10-1 overall record and has already secured a 1-0 start in conference play. Their trip to the Pacific Northwest also represents the first back-to-back road games of the season for the team. Previously, their only road game was held at a neutral site against top-ranked UConn in Uncasville, Connecticut.

The Wolverines opened their Big Ten schedule with a commanding 104-56 victory over Purdue at home. This offensive output is part of a trend, as Michigan has scored over 100 points multiple times this season. Specifically, the team has surpassed the century mark four times, a program first, following previous highs of three 100-point games in earlier seasons.

Michigan boasts the top scoring average in the Big Ten, putting up 92.5 points per game, which ranks fifth across the nation. The team’s offensive firepower is led by four sophomores averaging double-digit points: Olivia Olson (18.5 ppg), Syla Swords (14.1 ppg), Mila Holloway (12.9 ppg), and Te’Yala Delfosse (11.2 ppg).

In addition to offensive efficiency, the Wolverines excel in rebounding. With a +14.0 rebounding margin and an average of 44.1 rebounds per contest, they dominate the boards. Michigan ranks first in the Big Ten and seventh nationally in offensive rebounds, hauling in 17.3 offensive boards per game. This translates to grabbing 47.1 percent of available offensive rebounds, the best rate in their conference.

Defensively, the team allows just 30.1 rebounds per game. Michigan has maintained a perfect 10-0 record when controlling the glass. Te’Yala Delfosse, in particular, has shown significant development, improving her scoring average by 7.8 points per game compared to last season. This improvement ranks ninth among Big Ten players.

The Wolverines have consistently held their No. 6 ranking in the Associated Press poll for six straight weeks, matching a program record for consecutive weeks in the top 10. This ranking streak dates back to the 2021-22 season and demonstrates Michigan’s sustained excellence in women’s college basketball.

Looking ahead, Michigan’s road swing will continue with a New Year’s Day contest against Washington in Seattle. Afterward, the team will return home for its final non-conference game against Vanderbilt next month before finishing out the regular season schedule.

Key details of Michigan’s current season and upcoming schedule include:

  1. Overall record: 10-1
  2. Big Ten record: 1-0 with a dominating win over Purdue
  3. Players averaging double figures: Olivia Olson, Syla Swords, Mila Holloway, Te’Yala Delfosse
  4. Average points per game: 92.5 (Big Ten leader, fifth nationally)
  5. Rebounding margin: +14.0, with 44.1 total rebounds per game
  6. Offensive rebounds per game: 17.3 (first in Big Ten, seventh nationally)
  7. Remaining non-conference game: vs. Vanderbilt
  8. Next Big Ten matchups: at Oregon, then at Washington

The matchup at Oregon presents an opportunity for Michigan to prove its resilience on the road and continue its dominant form in conference play. The program’s historical strides in scoring and rebounding underscore their potential to make a deep postseason run.
