Gautam Gambhir, the Indian cricket team’s head coach, attended the wedding ceremony of Arjun Tendulkar in Mumbai just hours before India faced England in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup semifinal. Gambhir appeared in traditional attire, briefly joining the celebrations held at the same hotel where the Indian team was staying ahead of the crucial knockout match.
The Indian team had earlier navigated a tense Super 8 encounter, eliminating the two-time champions under Gambhir’s guidance to secure their semifinal spot. Several Indian squad members were reportedly present at the wedding, taking advantage of the convenient location and timing of the function.
The wedding festivities attracted notable personalities from across India, celebrating the union of Arjun Tendulkar and Saaniya Chandhok. The couple had announced their engagement the previous August. Saaniya is from a well-known business family and is the granddaughter of Ravi Ghai, chairman of the Graviss Group. She shares a close friendship with the Tendulkar family, particularly with Arjun’s sister Sara Tendulkar.
Arjun Tendulkar, 26, has had limited exposure in the Indian Premier League, representing Mumbai Indians in five matches. He has taken three wickets and scored 13 runs while conceding 114 runs. Domestically, he plays for the Goa cricket team after debuting for Mumbai in 2021.
Ahead of the IPL 2026 mini-auction, Arjun was traded from Mumbai Indians to Lucknow Super Giants. He is expected to play for Lucknow in the upcoming IPL season. Initially, he was bought by Mumbai Indians in the 2021 mini-auction for ₹20 lakh but did not appear in any matches that year.
This rare off-field moment for Gautam Gambhir highlights the delicate balance between personal commitments and the intense pressure surrounding India’s campaign in the high-stakes T20 World Cup semifinal. The coach’s brief presence at the wedding underscores the strong ties within the cricketing community.
