Lisa Ann Walter has opened up about an unusual dating story involving her son and some of her own fans. The Abbott Elementary star said one of her sons briefly went out with people who had attended her stand-up shows, and she made it clear she did not love the idea.
Walter shared the detail during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, where she said she told her son, “You cannot date my fans. That’s not cool.” She added that she understood why it happened, since he was single for the first time in a long time and was meeting “good-looking and smart” people in the audience.
Walter Says Her Son Dated Fans From Her Comedy Shows
During the interview, Kimmel jokingly described the situation as “poaching the groupies,” but Walter took a more measured view. She said her son was not acting with bad intent and noted that he was simply in a new phase of life after a long relationship.
Walter also said the fan dates did not become a long-term pattern. According to her, her son now has a “nice” girlfriend, which means he is no longer pursuing people who came to see her perform.
Why She Thought It Was a Problem
Walter explained that the issue was not jealousy, but uncertainty about how those relationships might affect her audience and her work. She said she did not know what would happen afterward, which is why she told him to stop.
- Her son was attending her stand-up shows.
- Some fans began dating him for a short period.
- Walter told him it was “not cool.”
- He eventually stopped after starting a relationship with someone else.
She made clear that she had no harsh judgment about the situation, but she still wanted boundaries around her professional space.
Motherhood Still Shapes Her Work on Abbott Elementary
Walter also recently spoke about how being a mother of four influences her performance on Abbott Elementary. At the 2025 Disney Upfronts red carpet, she said she has “been a mother as long as I’ve been an adult,” and that experience helps her handle children naturally.
“I had my first child when I was just out of college,” Walter told PEOPLE, adding that wrangling kids is something she is “pretty adept at.” She also said that her parenting experience helps her connect with co-stars who are parents, including Sheryl Lee Ralph and Janelle James.
Walter is mother to four children: Jordan, Delia, and twin sons Spencer and Simon. She was previously married to Sam Baum, and later welcomed her younger sons with her second husband, whose name has not been publicly shared.
