Prime Video’s superhero universe is shifting again, and one of its younger branches is coming to a close. Gen V will not return for a third season, even as the franchise prepares to expand with Vought Rising, which is set to debut in 2027.
The decision comes about six months after Season 2 wrapped its run at Godolkin University School of Crimefighting. The move also fits with the larger direction of the Vought Cinematic Universe, which already has Gen V characters appearing in The Boys and elements from Vought Rising feeding into the parent series.
Gen V ends after two seasons
Gen V launched with strong momentum and even earned a Season 2 renewal while its first season was still airing. The series later faced a major setback after the death of cast member Chance Perdomo in a motorcycle accident on his way to set in March 2024, which delayed production on the second season.
The YA drama centered on Marie Moreau and her fellow supes at Godolkin University, where the story blended college-age drama with the darker world of The Boys. Season 2 featured Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Sean Patrick Thomas, and Hamish Linklater.
The franchise continues through other series
Even without a third season of Gen V, the storylines tied to its cast will not disappear. VCU executive producers Eric Kripke and Evan Goldberg said the team is committed to carrying those characters forward in The Boys Season 5 and other projects in the franchise.
“While we wish we could keep the party going another season at Godolkin, we’re committed to continuing the Gen V characters’ stories in The Boys Season 5 and other VCU projects on the horizon,” Kripke and Goldberg said. “You’ll see them again.”
That approach reflects how closely the shared universe is now being managed. Characters from Gen V are already part of The Boys’ current fifth season, which is also weaving in characters and other material from Vought Rising.
Vought Rising is next in line
Vought Rising remains one of the main active spinoffs in development, and it is currently set for a 2027 launch. The series will star Aya Cash and Jensen Ackles, both of whom are also producers on the project.
Paul Grellong serves as showrunner and executive producer on Vought Rising. Kripke, Rogen, Goldberg, Weaver, Moritz, Shetty, Marmur, Levin, Netter, Ennis, Robertson, Starr, and Jim Barnes are also listed as executive producers.
Another title, The Boys: Mexico, remains in active development as well. All of the franchise series are produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios, along with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.
What the cancellation means for the cast and universe
The end of Gen V does not mean the characters are being written out of the larger story. The Season 2 finale already positioned supes to join Annie January’s resistance against Homelander’s dictatorship, setting up their role in the final chapter of The Boys.
That structure gives Prime Video a way to keep the universe connected while reducing the number of separate live-action branches. It also keeps attention on the final season of The Boys, which serves as the main hub for the characters and storylines introduced across the franchise.
