AIFA–Manzanillo Launches In July, Viva Aerobus Bets On A New Travel Shortcut

Viva Aerobus will open a new air route between the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) and Manzanillo, Colima, starting on July 2. The service will operate three times a week and was announced during the Tianguis Turístico Acapulco 2026.

The new link adds another option for travelers from central Mexico who want direct access to the Pacific coast destination. It also strengthens the airline’s network from AIFA, where Viva Aerobus already operates more than 40 routes, including domestic and international destinations.

What the new route means for travelers

The announcement highlighted the practical value of AIFA for passengers in the Mexico City metropolitan area. Its location near the Valley of Mexico, together with the suburban train connection to the terminal, makes access to the airport easier for many travelers.

That connectivity is one of the main points behind the new Manzanillo service. By adding a direct route, the airline expands low-cost travel options for people looking for alternatives to reach Colima’s coastal destination.

Tourism and business impact in Colima

Tourism authorities said the route could help attract new market segments and diversify the state’s offer. They also linked the new connection to broader efforts to strengthen economic activity in Colima through better air connectivity.

Officials added that the state aims to keep building strategic alliances that improve its competitiveness in both national and international tourism markets. The route announcement was made at the Colima stand, with the participation of Jorge Padilla, undersecretary of tourism, Jesús Horacio González, vice president of Corporate Affairs at Viva Aerobus, and Omar Aquiles Miranda, manager of Connectivity and Airport Services at Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico.

For Manzanillo, the new AIFA connection adds another channel for visitor flow and supports the state’s efforts to broaden its tourism reach. For Viva Aerobus, it extends an already large network from AIFA and reinforces the airport’s role as a growing hub for accessible travel.
