Morayo Afolabi-Brown has opened up about a disturbing phone call she received after criticism over her interview style. The television host said an individual called her and rained curses on her because of questions she asked guests on The Morayo Show. In a video posted on her Instagram handle, the former Your View co-host said the attack left her unsettled because it came through her personal phone number, not just social media comments. She said the caller repeated several “unprintable words” while complaining about her interview approach. Why The Call Stood Out Brown said she is used to online backlash and has learned to ignore harsh messages on social media. What surprised her was that someone had her number and chose to call directly to curse her over the kind of questions she asks on air. “I’ve been dragged on social media for many years for different reasons. So I don’t read those messages because it’s not my kind of thing. But for somebody to have the privilege of having my phone number and calling me and raining curses on me… what’s my sin? The kind of questions I ask guests or the names I call during my interviews?” she said. Brown Defends Her Right To Ask Tough Questions According to punchng.com, Brown linked the reaction to recent criticism she has faced over some of her interviews, including a question about someone’s experience at a funeral. She defended her style by pointing to her long career in broadcasting and said she has earned the right to ask difficult questions. “I’ve been in the media for 21 years. I’ve been on television for 12 years, every single day, Monday to Friday, hosting a TV show. There are only a handful of Nigerians who have that experience,” she said. “If there’s anybody in this country that has the right to ask anybody any kind of question, it is I. I’ve earned it.” Her Approach To Interviews Brown also said she does not use her platform to embarrass guests and insisted that her programme is built around warmth rather than hostility. She said she respects boundaries by giving some guests questions in advance and telling others the topics they should avoid. “My show is not for criticising and bashing people. My show is a show where we give love and joy,” she said. She added that she would still ask direct questions even if she were interviewing a major global figure. “If Donald Trump comes here tomorrow, I will ask him whatever the heck I want to ask him,” she said. Recent Interviews Kept Her In The Spotlight Brown’s comments come after fresh conversations around some of her celebrity interviews. Actress Ireti Doyle recently declined to discuss details of her divorce on The Morayo Show, saying the matter was “none of your business.” She has also drawn attention for questions posed to Toyin Abraham about her reported rift with Funke Akindele, as well as during an interview with former Minister Babatunde Fashola.
