Microsoft has widened its Surface lineup with two new devices built around a clear goal: making on-device AI a central part of the Windows experience. The new Surface Pro 12th Edition and Surface Laptop 8th Edition both use Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 chips, placing performance and efficiency at the center of the launch. The move also underscores how aggressively Microsoft is positioning its latest Surface models for the AI PC era. With up to 80 TOPS of AI processing capability, the new devices are designed to run more intelligent Windows features locally rather than leaning heavily on the cloud. Both are paired with Qualcomm Hexagon NPU hardware that delivers AI performance of up to 80 TOPS. That level of processing is one of the key selling points for the new Surface models. Microsoft says the combination is meant to bring faster, safer, and more power-efficient AI experiences to users. The devices also come with RAM options from 16GB to 64GB and internal storage ranging from 256GB to 1TB. These configurations place the new Surface lineup squarely in premium territory, with flexibility for different work and productivity needs. Surface Laptop 8th Edition expands the lineup with two display sizes The Surface Laptop 8th Edition is available in 13.8-inch and 15-inch versions. The 13.8-inch model starts at US$1,599, while the 15-inch model starts at US$1,699. On the smaller version, Microsoft uses a 120Hz LCD panel with a pixel density of 201 PPI. It is also rated for up to 20 hours of local video playback on a single charge. The 15-inch version offers a sharper panel with 262 PPI and adds a MicroSDXC card slot for more flexible storage expansion. Both Surface Laptop models include two USB-C ports with USB4 support and one USB-A port. Microsoft has also added a new Jade color option for the 13.8-inch model, joining Platinum, Black, and Dune. Both the OLED and LCD versions support a dynamic refresh rate of up to 120Hz. That should help keep motion smooth for work, drawing, and media consumption. The device also includes a 1440p ultrawide front camera for video calls. Connectivity covers Wi-Fi 7 and two USB-C/USB4 ports, while battery life is rated at up to 15.5 hours of local video playback.
