Google Search is moving beyond a system that waits for a query. With its latest AI-driven upgrades, it is starting to behave more like an always-on information assistant that can monitor topics, surface answers faster, and even take action on behalf of the user.
That shift matters because Search is no longer being framed only as a place to find links. Google is tying it more tightly to Gemini, expanding agent-based features, and making the experience more responsive for longer and more complex searches.
Search is becoming more proactive
The most notable change is the introduction of search agents, which push Google Search closer to an active monitoring tool. Instead of simply notifying users after matching content appears, these agents are designed to keep watch over specific topics with more intelligence and less manual effort.
Google gave examples such as tracking a new music collaboration from a favorite artist or watching a product price until it reaches a preferred level. That turns Search into something that can keep working in the background, rather than waiting for a user to repeat the same search.
Access to search agents is scheduled to begin in the summer. At launch, the feature will be available only to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers.
Search is also getting more responsive and personal
Google said Search quality continues to improve across accuracy, completeness, coverage, and the way information is presented. The company also showed an update that lets the search box expand automatically when users type long or complex questions, making the input experience easier to use.
On the AI side, Google is connecting Search more closely with Gemini 3.5 Flash. That integration is intended to make Search more efficient when delivering answers and helping users get to relevant information faster.
Another major change is Personal Intelligence in AI Mode. This feature allows AI Mode to use what Gemini already knows about the user and access relevant content across the user’s Google account. The goal is to make responses more contextual and more personally relevant, and Google said this capability is rolling out globally in AI Mode starting now.
Booking and coding features are expanding too
Google is not limiting the update to search answers alone. Its agentic booking capability in Search is also being widened so it can handle reservations across a broader range of business types.
That booking expansion is also planned for summer, but unlike search agents, it will be available to all Google users in the US. The move suggests Google wants Search to do more than answer questions and also help complete practical tasks such as reservations.
Google is also pushing agentic coding in Search. When a standard answer is not enough, the feature is meant to turn search results into interactive mini apps.
The tool is powered by Gemini Flash 3.5 and Antigravity. Google says it can help create small apps directly inside Search to explain more complex topics in a more interactive way, including something like a wellness plan with diet and exercise targets.
A broader shift in what Search is supposed to do
Taken together, the changes show Google moving Search into a more active role. The product is being shaped to monitor, respond, assist, and even build interactive experiences instead of only returning a list of links.
That direction also makes Search feel more personal and more useful for real-world tasks. From tracking important topics and price changes to turning results into interactive tools, Google is redefining what a search engine can do.
