Samsung’s next Ultra model may be shaping up as a refinement rather than a reinvention, and that is already creating a different kind of anticipation. The strongest leaks around the Galaxy S27 Ultra point to only two major upgrades: a larger battery and a more advanced camera system.
That approach would leave the Galaxy S26 Ultra looking even more impressive as a current benchmark. With a 5,000mAh battery, a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, versatile cameras, 8K recording, and 60W fast charging, the existing flagship already covers the needs of most users at a high level.
Battery life appears to be the clearest upgrade
The biggest shift may come from endurance. Early reports suggest the Galaxy S27 Ultra could move into the 5,500mAh to 7,000mAh range, with one more specific figure placing it at 5,600mAh.
Some leaks also point to silicon-carbon battery technology, which would help Samsung raise capacity without making the phone noticeably thicker. That would make the device more appealing for heavy gaming, streaming, and multitasking.
If that number holds, battery life could become one of the model’s most obvious selling points. It would also be one of the few areas where the S27 Ultra could clearly separate itself from its predecessor.
The camera system may change more than the design suggests
The other major focus is the rear camera setup. Samsung is said to be working with a 200MP ISOCELL HP6 main sensor that uses LOFIC technology to improve dynamic range, and an variable aperture is also being discussed.
The ultra-wide camera is rumored to rise to 50MP, while the periscope camera may also use a 50MP sensor with 5x optical zoom. That combination could turn the rear system into a triple-camera layout.
Such a move would mean the 3x telephoto lens may disappear from the Ultra line. Samsung would then be betting more heavily on the quality of the main sensor and long-range zoom performance, even if that choice reduces the flexibility some users currently enjoy.
Other leaks point to a more polished flagship
Beyond the two headline upgrades, several other details have surfaced around the Galaxy S27 Ultra. The phone is said to feature a 6.9-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness above 3,000 nits.
Performance rumors mention the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro built on a 2nm process, while some regions could get the Exynos 2700 instead. Memory options are expected to include 12GB, 16GB, and 24GB of RAM, alongside 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage choices.
There is also talk of UFS 5.0 storage, a new 12MP front camera, and a secure facial authentication system called Polar ID. On the charging side, rumors suggest wired charging between 45W and 65W, plus 25W Qi2 magnetic wireless charging with a built-in magnet ecosystem.
A thinner body, but not a radically different formula
Design leaks suggest Samsung may aim for a slimmer and lighter device while keeping the integrated S Pen slot. The camera module is also said to switch to a horizontal island layout instead of separate camera rings.
Software support would remain one of Samsung’s key advantages. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to run Android 17 with One UI 9 and continue offering up to seven years of major OS updates.
If the current timeline proves accurate, the launch window is likely set for January or February 2027, with a starting price around $1,299 USD or £1,249. That puts the phone squarely in premium territory, where Samsung will need more than just incremental changes to justify the cost.
