XLSMART Pushes Full 5G Coverage Across 43 Cities, Leaving Rivals Behind In Key Areas

XLSMART is pushing a stronger case for its 5G network by framing it as more than a limited rollout. The company says its service is already present across 43 cities in a way that leaves no unserved areas within those locations.

Director and Chief Regulatory Officer Merza Fachys said XLSMART has completed 5G buildouts in those cities, and the company describes the deployment as “true 5G.” The label is meant to distinguish full-area coverage from networks that only appear in selected spots.

The claim is supported by the scale of the company’s infrastructure. XLSMART says it now operates 253,750 base transceiver stations, or BTS, serving 69.4 million customers.

Merza emphasized that coverage alone is not the full story. He pointed to the availability of complete spectrum as a key element in delivering a more consistent user experience.

That approach also reflects the company’s post-merger network work. XLSMART says around 70 percent of its sites had been integrated by the end of 2025, and the integration effort is viewed as important for improving network quality and expanding digital service experience.

The company’s position in 5G also comes with external recognition. Last year, XLSMART received the title of The Best 5G Network in Indonesia from Ookla, which the company sees as added momentum for continued development.

Beyond the current footprint, XLSMART says its network reach has expanded to cover nearly 70 percent of the XL Axiata and Smartfren networks that were integrated. That scale gives the company a broader base as it works to compete in a telecom market that remains tightly contested.

Merza said the company will continue its transformation in a disciplined and sustained way. He added that XLSMART will keep strengthening its network, improving operational efficiency, and delivering telecom and digital services that remain relevant for customers, businesses, and the wider public.

For XLSMART, 5G is positioned as part of a larger business strategy rather than an isolated feature. The company views the next phase of its network development as a way to deepen service quality and extend digital experiences to more cities.
