Samsung May Return The Classic Line, And A Google Watch Feature Could Follow On Galaxy Watch 9

Samsung’s next smartwatch lineup is shaping up to be more ambitious than usual, with early code clues pointing to three Galaxy Watch 9 models arriving together. The most notable part of the leak is not just the expanded lineup, but the possibility that Samsung could also pick up one of Google’s signature Wear OS features.

The most visible sign is the return of the Classic name, alongside a new Ultra successor. That combination suggests Samsung may be preparing a broader smartwatch strategy instead of relying on the familiar pattern of alternating between a standard model and a more experimental one.

Three models, one launch wave

For several generations, Samsung’s smartwatch releases have followed a recognizable rhythm. The company has typically paired a regular Galaxy Watch with a Classic version, then shifted toward a more adventurous model in the next cycle.

That pattern became clearer when the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro arrived as a different kind of option. Later, Galaxy Watch Ultra joined the Galaxy Watch 7 as the more rugged and premium alternative.

This time, the leak points in a different direction. Galaxy Watch 9, Galaxy Watch 9 Classic, and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are all said to be part of the same launch wave.

What the Wear OS code suggests

The information comes from Android Authority, which found references inside a recent Wear OS update. The names “fresh9,” “wise9,” and “projectv2” appeared in the code, although none of them confirms a final commercial product on its own.

Still, the naming pattern is hard to ignore. Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch 8 Classic previously used the development names “Fresh 8” and “Wise 8,” making “fresh9” and “wise9” look like natural successors.

The link to Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 is less direct, but it also fits a known pattern. The earlier Ultra model used the codename “Project X2,” so “projectv2” appears consistent with Samsung’s internal naming style.

Google’s Raise-to-Talk may expand

The same code review also uncovered another interesting detail tied to Google’s Raise-to-Talk feature on Pixel Watch 4. The feature lets users trigger voice interaction by lifting the wrist, which makes it a simple shortcut for voice-based commands.

In the latest code, Raise-to-Talk appears with new “WearOS” and “3p” labels. Android Authority interprets “3p” as a possible reference to third-party devices, which would mean the feature may no longer stay exclusive to Pixel Watch hardware.

There is still no official confirmation that Samsung watches will support it. Even so, the code changes suggest Google may be preparing to widen access to the feature across the Wear OS ecosystem.

That would also fit Google’s broader direction. A wider rollout could help bring Gemini-style interaction to more smartwatches, not just devices made by Google itself.

What this could mean for Samsung users

If the leak holds up, Samsung’s next smartwatch generation could stand out in two ways at once. First, the company would offer a more complete lineup with standard, Classic, and Ultra models all in one cycle.

Second, it could add a Google feature that changes how users interact with their watch. Raise-to-Talk would not just be a visual or hardware update, but a more practical shift in daily use.

For now, the details remain tied to code analysis and internal naming clues. Those signals are often useful, but they do not always translate directly into final product names or finished features.

Samsung is widely expected to unveil its next smartwatch lineup on 22 July. If that schedule proves accurate, the answer on all three Galaxy Watch 9 models and the possible arrival of Raise-to-Talk may not be far away.
