Freshness, Space And Energy Efficiency Now Define The Modern Refrigerator Choice

Home refrigerators are being asked to do far more than keep food cold. As lifestyles become busier and living spaces tighter, consumers are paying closer attention to freshness preservation, odor control, energy efficiency, and storage flexibility when choosing a new appliance.

That shift is reshaping competition in the home electronics market. Size and design still matter, but they are no longer enough on their own, because household buyers now want a refrigerator that supports daily routines and helps reduce food waste.

Freshness has become a buying priority

The way people use refrigerators at home has changed. Many households now view the appliance as part of meal management, not just a cooling box in the kitchen.

Concerns about food quality and the effort to avoid waste have reinforced that change. Storage technology that can help ingredients stay fresh for longer has become one of the main considerations in a purchase decision.

Haier positions Horizon as a lifestyle appliance

Haier responded to that demand with the launch of the Horizon Refrigerators Collection in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 3. The premium refrigerator line is designed to combine food-freshness technology, large storage capacity, and energy efficiency in one product.

Haier Refrigeration Overseas General Manager Xue Yanhui said changes in lifestyle have altered consumer needs. He described the Horizon Collection as a “healthy, smart, and modern lifestyle solution,” underscoring how refrigerators are increasingly viewed as part of a broader way of living.

Air quality inside the fridge matters more

The Horizon Collection includes Active Fresh Zone and Magnetic Freshness Technology, both aimed at helping preserve food conditions during storage. Haier also equipped the line with ABT Pro air purification, which is claimed to help reduce bacteria and strong odors from food inside the cooling compartment.

That focus reflects a more detailed consumer expectation. Cold temperature alone is no longer enough, because the storage environment itself is now part of what buyers evaluate.

Large capacity still matters in Indonesia

For many households in Indonesia, storage capacity remains a major concern. Cooking in larger portions and the culture of shared meals mean spacious storage is still needed, whether in urban family homes or kitchens with limited room.

To answer that need, the Horizon Collection uses adjustable shelves that allow users to store larger ingredients as well as family-sized dishes. Haier also introduced the Spacefit and Space Slim series to address different living conditions, with one aimed at consumers who need larger capacity and the other at homes with tighter space constraints.

A premium segment with growing attention

The launch event at UP at Thamrin 9, the highest observatory in Indonesia, was chosen to reflect the “Horizon” concept as a new frontier in refrigeration technology. It was also meant to signal Haier’s ambition to bring global refrigeration standards to the Indonesian market.

During the event, the company demonstrated the product’s air purification system, food-freshness features, and storage flexibility. The presence of Junadi Marki from the Ministry of Industry’s Electronics and Telematics Directorate, along with Haier management, business partners, industry players, and technology observers, showed the level of attention around this segment.

The message from the launch was clear: refrigerator buying decisions are changing. Efficiency of space, food freshness, and support for a modern lifestyle are now central factors in the way consumers assess home cooling appliances.
