Samsung’s One UI 8.5 is now reaching the Galaxy M17 and Galaxy M17e in India, and the update goes beyond a simple refresh. It brings a more refined look, broader customization options, updated bundled apps, and the latest security patch in one package.
The rollout is notable because the two phones did not launch on the same software base. The Galaxy M17 debuted with One UI 7, while the Galaxy M17e arrived later with One UI 8 already installed, making this a meaningful jump for both devices.
A larger update for two mid-range phones
Samsung is distributing different firmware builds for the two models. The Galaxy M17e is getting M076BXXU2BZE3, while the Galaxy M17 package comes as M176BXXU5CZE9.
The download size is around 3GB, so users will need a stable connection and enough storage before starting the installation. Samsung has also included the May 2026 security patch in the same update package.
That combination suggests the company is still actively supporting the Galaxy M series with more than basic maintenance. The focus is not only on protection, but also on making day-to-day use feel smoother and more practical.
Visual changes that feel more mature
One of the most noticeable shifts in One UI 8.5 is the design language. App icons now look a little more three-dimensional, and system animations are said to feel smoother during use.
Samsung also refreshed its built-in apps with a more compact tab bar. That change makes in-app navigation feel cleaner and easier to follow on a phone screen.
The overall effect is a version of One UI that looks more polished without losing its familiar identity. The update is aimed at usability as much as appearance, which makes the interface feel less cosmetic and more deliberate.
More control over the interface
The Quick Panel now offers more customization options, allowing users to arrange shortcuts and key elements to better fit their preferences. The lock screen also gains new ways to personalize the clock widget, including additional font choices.
Weather has been updated as well, with pollen index information now available. The Weather widget is also said to receive improvements, although Samsung has not gone into more detail about the visual changes.
Galaxy M17 and Galaxy M17e users also get Direct Voicemail. Another addition is the ability to add a Smart View shortcut for any device, which should make the feature easier to access.
Built-in apps get practical upgrades
Several bundled apps are receiving useful refinements. Clock now includes a built-in time zone converter and weather effects for alarm backgrounds, giving the app more utility for everyday planning.
Samsung Health has also been updated with more design options for sharing workout metrics. Device Care now presents battery data on an information screen that is described as more practical and easier to read.
Reminder gains the ability to set alerts in advance, which can help users get notified before the main reminder time. Samsung Internet now supports adding tables in the browser, and the New Tab page comes with a new design.
Calculator is also getting a more context-aware improvement. It can now proactively suggest numbers for calculations based on clipboard content.
How to check the update
Users in India can look for the rollout through Settings, then Software update, and finally Download and install. Once the file has finished downloading, the installation can be started by tapping Install now.
Because the package is close to 3GB, it is best handled on a stable network with enough free storage available. For Galaxy M17 and Galaxy M17e owners, the update brings a mix of visual polish, added convenience, and a fresh security layer in one sizable release.
