Retroid has brought back the 12GB version of the Retroid Pocket 6, but the return comes with an immediate compromise. The model now ships with 128GB of internal storage instead of 256GB, while the price remains unchanged at $279.
That shift matters because the older 12GB/256GB version offered more breathing room without asking buyers to pay extra. Retroid still includes a microSD card slot, which helps offset the smaller built-in storage for users who need more space.
A familiar price, less storage
The revived configuration is now 12GB RAM paired with 128GB storage. In practical terms, buyers are paying the same $279 as before, but they are getting half the internal storage that was available on the earlier 12GB model.
Retroid announced the change through Discord, after previously pausing the 12GB Pocket 6 in March. The company said the move was tied to a memory cost surge it described as a RAM crisis.
Why the 12GB model still matters
The Pocket 6 has remained notable in the Android handheld market because of its hardware mix and aggressive pricing. It starts at $244, uses the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, and carries a 120Hz OLED display.
That combination has helped position the device as one of the stronger Android handheld options in its class. The return of the 12GB variant gives buyers another route to the higher-memory configuration without pushing the price into a much higher bracket.
For users who plan to push the device harder, the extra RAM is the main draw. It should be more relevant for heavier Switch emulation and newer PC games, where memory demands can become more noticeable.
By contrast, the 8GB model remains adequate for many mainstream use cases. Retroid’s own positioning suggests that PS2, GameCube, and older PC or indie titles can still run comfortably on the lower-memory option.
How the current lineup compares
The difference between the 8GB and 12GB versions is now $35, since the 8GB/128GB model is still sold for $244 after Retroid’s March pricing adjustment. That gap now buys more RAM, not more storage.
| Model | Price | RAM | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Retroid Pocket 6 | $244 | 8GB | 128GB |
| Retroid Pocket 6 | $279 | 12GB | 128GB |
The 12GB/128GB version is also limited to a top-stick layout, where the left analog stick sits above the D-pad. Buyers can choose from black, silver, or 16-bit color options.
Retaining the old $279 price suggests that memory costs are still putting pressure on the product line. If Retroid had kept the previous 12GB/256GB setup under current component pricing, the device would likely have climbed well above $300.
That is what makes the new configuration a middle ground. Retroid can restore the higher-RAM option for buyers who want more headroom, while keeping the Pocket 6 within the same price band and avoiding a larger jump in cost.
