Instagram has started rolling out a change that could reshape how carousel posts are built and read. Each photo or video slide can now carry its own caption, giving creators a cleaner way to explain content without forcing everything into one long block of text.
The update is designed to make captions shift automatically as viewers move from one slide to the next. That means the text under a post can now match the exact image or video being shown, rather than serving all slides at once.
A long-requested fix for carousel posts
Until now, carousel posts on Instagram were limited to a single caption for every slide. That made it difficult for creators who wanted to explain a tutorial step, a product detail, or a travel moment without cluttering the post with a lengthy description.

How the new setting works
When creating a carousel post, users will see a new toggle in the caption area. The options are “Single caption” for the old format or “Multiple captions” for per-slide text.
If “Multiple captions” is selected, users can swipe through each slide in the posting screen and write a different caption for every photo or video. Instagram allows up to 20 slides in one carousel, which means a single post can now hold up to 20 unique captions.
