Apple’s next thin iPhone is shaping up to be more than a minor refresh. Early leaks around the iPhone Air 2 suggest the company wants to keep the device extremely slim while adding enough hardware to make it feel far more capable.
The most notable change is expected to be a second rear camera, specifically a 48-megapixel ultra-wide lens. That addition would expand the phone’s imaging flexibility without giving up the slim profile that defined the first iPhone Air.
Thin design remains the priority
According to the current leak, the iPhone Air 2 is still expected to measure 5.6 mm thick. It is also said to continue using a titanium alloy body, keeping it in a different material class from the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max.
Even with the larger battery that is rumored to be included, the device is not expected to become noticeably thicker. Apple appears to be aiming for a balance between endurance, durability, and a body that remains exceptionally slim.

Apple A20 Pro and a smaller Face ID module
The phone is also expected to move to the Apple A20 Pro chip, which is reportedly built on a 2nm process. That step could matter as much as the design itself, since improved efficiency would help support a thinner handset with more demanding hardware.
Prosser also said Apple may shrink the Face ID camera system on the iPhone Air 2. If that happens, the Dynamic Island could become smaller as well, leaving more space for the new camera arrangement.
Colors are expected to shift, but not dramatically
The leak points to a familiar-looking color lineup with Space Black, Cloud White, and Light Gold. Lavender is also said to replace the current Sky Blue option.
Those changes are subtle, but they still suggest Apple is refining the identity of the Air line rather than treating it like a one-off experiment. For a device built around slimness, visual details like color and front-camera size can matter almost as much as core hardware.
What Apple may be building toward
The broader strategy hinted at by the leak is even more interesting than the hardware itself. Prosser believes a thinner iPhone Air model could eventually replace the iPhone entry-level model.
In that scenario, Apple would sell only iPhone Pro models, a foldable Ultra model, and a standard model that may adopt the thinner Air-style design. That idea is still speculative, but it fits a future where Apple reduces overlap across its lineup.
