Roblox is preparing to let users create playable games on a phone by describing an idea to an AI system called Build. The new tool lowers the initial barrier to game creation, but global access to published Build games will be restricted to users aged 16 and older.
The restriction applies after a game passes Roblox’s safety review. Users who want to access Build during its initial rollout must also complete age verification and be at least 9 years old.
Build is scheduled to enter public alpha on July 28, 2026, beginning in New Zealand. Its basic version will be free, while additional tools for professional creators will be offered through a paid plan.
Roblox said games created with Build will go through the same moderation process used for other games on the platform. Its recommendation system will continue to prioritize games with strong player retention rather than simply favoring AI-made projects.
From a Text Prompt to a Playable Starting Point
Users can type a short prompt describing the game they want to create. A request could describe a relaxed forest adventure with natural obstacles, for example.
The AI can then assemble an initial game framework that includes an environment, characters, gameplay mechanics, visual style, and sound effects. Creators can edit the result before deciding whether to publish it on Roblox.
Roblox Build combines open-source AI models with the company’s own models. Those systems were trained on large collections of 3D object data and game assets.
The technology is intended to go beyond generating a single object. Roblox has designed its AI to produce a complete 3D scene that can be used directly as part of a game.
Phone Projects Can Continue on Desktop
Build is designed to complement Roblox Studio, the development tool traditionally used by creators on computers. A project started on a phone can be continued on a computer for more extensive development work.
Build and Roblox Studio share the same underlying system, AI models, and conversation history. Creators can also run an AI agent in Roblox Studio and monitor its progress through the Build mobile app.
Roblox’s approach is to hand repetitive work to AI so creators can focus more on game ideas, concepts, and other creative elements. The company plans to begin early trials of several new AI agents in Roblox Studio on July 28, 2026.
| AI Agent | Main Function |
|---|---|
| Playtesting Agent | Automatically tests games and looks for bugs before users play them. |
| Analytics Agent | Answers creator questions about game performance in everyday language. |
| Experiment Agent | Recommends experiments to improve engagement, retention, and revenue potential. |
Roblox is also developing Procedural Models, which can create parametric 3D assets from text or images. Another system, Cube, is a 3D AI model intended to generate ready-to-use objects such as vehicles, weapons, and game props.
The rollout gives Roblox users a new route into game creation without requiring deep programming or design skills at the start. Age checks, safety reviews, and publication limits will nevertheless remain central to how Build games reach a wider audience.
