Apple has raised the prices of several iPhone models in Japan, with the iPhone Air 256 GB recording the largest increase. Its price rose by 18,000 yen, from 159,800 yen to 177,800 yen, an increase of about 11 percent.
The adjustment also affects the iPhone 16, iPhone 17e, iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Apple has not provided an official explanation for the revised pricing.
A weaker yen against the US dollar is considered a possible reason for the changes. The exchange rate reached 162.83 yen per US dollar on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, according to LSEG data.
Such currency movement can reduce the dollar value of Apple’s Japanese sales when revenue is converted from yen. Apple is also reported to be facing higher component costs, while recent price increases have affected iPad and Mac products as well.

The iPhone 17 Pro Max 256 GB saw one of the sharpest increases after the iPhone Air. Its price rose from 194,800 yen to 214,800 yen, representing an increase of about 10 percent.
The iPhone 17 256 GB also increased by roughly 10 percent. It is now priced at 142,800 yen, compared with 129,800 yen previously.
For the iPhone 17 Pro 256 GB, the price rose from 179,800 yen to 194,800 yen. That is an increase of about 8 percent.
The iPhone 17e 256 GB moved from 99,800 yen to 107,800 yen, also an increase of around 8 percent. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 128 GB rose by 10,000 yen, from 114,800 yen to 124,800 yen.
Currency pressure rather than a memory crisis
The price changes come as the technology industry has been focused on a memory crisis, but that issue is not identified as the likely driver of Apple’s Japanese pricing move. The weakening yen is instead cited as the more likely factor behind the adjustment.
Apple’s broader cost environment may also be relevant, given reported increases in component expenses. The company has already raised the prices of other products in recent months, including iPad tablets and Mac computers.
Indonesia has also seen higher iPhone prices
Japan’s price revision coincides with reported iPhone price increases in Indonesia in early July. iPhoneros, as cited by tekno.kompas.com, found that nearly the entire range was selling for more than it did at the end of June.
The affected Indonesian lineup reportedly includes the iPhone 15 series, iPhone 16 series, iPhone Air, and iPhone 17 series. Some models are said to be priced above their launch levels.
The iPhone 16e 128 GB is one example, listed at Rp 12.749.000 after being priced at Rp 10.749.000 at the end of June 2026. The figure remains stated in Indonesian Rupiah, as reported.
Apple is scheduled to hold its fiscal third-quarter earnings conference on July 30. The event may provide further insight into conditions influencing product pricing across its markets.
