MultiRealm Games has found that international expansion depends on far more than making a gaming platform available in another language. Payment systems, digital product supply, pricing rules and privacy policies can determine whether a service can operate effectively in a new country.
These operational requirements are becoming more important as the company records stronger-than-expected transaction growth in Latin America. Western markets have also emerged as a notable opportunity, with lower transaction volumes than Southeast Asia but higher spending per user.
Different Markets, Different Transaction Patterns
| Region | Transaction Pattern | Potential for MRP |
|---|---|---|
| Southeast Asia | High transaction volume | Remains the main market |
| Western markets | Lower volume, higher value per transaction | Supported by different consumer purchasing power |
| Latin America | Transaction growth exceeded expectations | A focus for global market penetration |
Hendi, Vice President of Growth & Marketing at MultiRealm Games, said the developments in Western markets and Latin America were the company’s biggest surprise. The differing purchasing power in Western markets, he said, results in larger values for individual transactions.
The pattern suggests that digital game platforms cannot rely only on the size of their player base when measuring growth. The value and quality of transactions have become a significant consideration alongside overall user numbers.
MultiRealm Games, or MRP, is an entity of PT Bukalapak.com Tbk that oversees LapakGaming. It began its international expansion in 2024 by using digital payment technology and a distribution network for digital products.
Borderless Distribution, Local Requirements
Gaming services can reach consumers across borders without the need to build physical stores or retail infrastructure. Hendi said that advantage separates digital gaming from businesses that distribute physical products.
“Gaming is borderless. It is different from physical-product businesses that have to build stores or infrastructure first,” Hendi said at a media gathering in Jakarta on July 22, 2026.
Even so, each country has its own regulations covering pricing, payment methods, taxes and privacy policies. MRP therefore needs flexible payment systems that comply with local requirements before it can optimize its services in each market.
“Every country has different regulations, from pricing and payment to privacy policy. That is what makes gaming expansion more complicated than simply translating an application into another language,” Hendi said.
Mobile Transactions Remain the Core
While PC and console gaming continue to develop, mobile gaming remains the main support for MRP’s digital gaming economy. Its large user base and frequent Mobile Microtransactions continue to drive the highest number of transactions.
“When looking at the number of transactions, microtransactions in mobile gaming are still unmatched. Gaming has now become part of people’s lifestyle,” Hendi said, as reported by Suara.com.
Gaming is also increasingly linked with esports, streaming and the creative industry. More capable devices and growing smartphone storage capacity have supported wider consumption of digital games.
Potential Route for Indonesian Developers
MRP’s broader distribution network could provide Indonesian-made games with a route to reach users in other countries. However, local games still account for a relatively small share of total transactions.
Hendi said enthusiasm among Indonesian developers is growing, with many studios beginning to develop their own games. Most developers are currently focused on PC games because the investment and business model are viewed as faster.
The company also sees gaming as a resilient industry when other digital sectors slow down. Hendi said the COVID-19 pandemic showed that game consumption could continue growing while many sectors contracted.
