NAVI Mobile Legends Indonesia left no room for doubt in its meeting with Geek Fam, pulling off a clean 2-0 win in week five of MPL ID Season 17. The result gave NAVI a valuable boost, but it also highlighted how much work had been done before the first draft of the match even began.
The team’s advantage was not built only through in-game execution. According to assistant coach Hafizun “Jacklee” Ahmad, NAVI entered the series with a clear read on Geek Fam’s tendencies, especially the movement patterns around Baloyskie in the river area.
Early preparation shaped the series
Jacklee said NAVI had already studied how Geek Fam usually moves on the map. That preparation helped the team anticipate pressure points and respond faster once the match started.
“We already could read Geek’s gameplay because we had observed Baloyskie’s movement, which often takes place around the river. That was one of the reasons we were prepared from the start,” Jacklee told Medcom.id.
That level of anticipation gave NAVI a practical edge in the match. Instead of reacting late, the team looked ready to meet Geek Fam’s patterns from the opening moments through the final sequence.
Scrim habits remain part of the standard
For Jacklee, a result like this starts far earlier than match day. He stressed that scrims need to be treated as true turnamen simulations so the team’s decisions and movements become consistent under pressure.
“Just keep it more controlled in scrims, because scrims are, in my opinion, a turnamen simulation. So we have to be objective, and the moves and actions we want to take must stay consistent in scrims as well. That way, when it is brought into the turnamen, the team is already used to it,” he said.
The message behind that view is clear. NAVI’s win over Geek Fam matters, but the coaching staff still sees steady practice habits as the real foundation for stable performance across the season.
Bigger challenges are already in sight
After finishing the series with a 2-0 scoreline, NAVI did not stay focused on the victory for long. Attention quickly shifted to teams that are viewed as stronger tests in the current season, with Jacklee naming ONIC Esports and Bigetron Alpha (BTR) by Vitality as the next targets.
“The two teams we want to beat? First ONIC, second BTR, because they are two very strong teams this season,” Jacklee said.
That target list shows that NAVI is not treating the Geek Fam result as a final destination. The next matches are expected to demand more because both ONIC and BTR are described as powerful sides in the current season.
A clean win, but the pressure to stay consistent remains
The victory suggests NAVI is starting to find a stronger rhythm in MPL ID Season 17. At the same time, the emphasis on scrim consistency shows the team still views performance stability as a work in progress.
Reading the opponent well before the match and executing with discipline on stage gave NAVI a convincing win over Geek Fam. The real test now lies in whether that same level of preparation can hold when ONIC and BTR come into focus next.
