Vivo has introduced a new option in its S-series lineup with the launch of the Vivo S50t 5G in China. The phone is positioned as a more affordable alternative to the standard Vivo S50, while still keeping the premium feel that defines the upper mid-range segment.
That positioning is reflected in the way Vivo has trimmed only selected parts of the device. The goal appears to be lower pricing without giving up the core strengths that make the model appealing: strong performance, a large battery, fast display technology, and a camera setup that still looks serious for its class.
Performance stays high despite the lower price
The most notable adjustment lies in storage, where the Vivo S50t 5G uses UFS 3.1 instead of the UFS 4.1 found on the standard model. That change helps Vivo keep the price more accessible, but the overall experience is still aimed at users who expect a fast and capable phone.
Power comes from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 built on a 4nm process. Vivo pairs the chip with 12GB or 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of internal storage, giving the phone enough headroom for demanding tasks and high-end gaming.
A compact AMOLED display with high brightness
The phone features a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution. It also supports a 120Hz refresh rate and reaches peak brightness of up to 5000 nits, which should make it competitive in different lighting conditions.
Its size is relatively restrained for a device in this class, which may help with comfort in daily use. The display specification keeps the S50t 5G aligned with the rest of its premium-leaning package.
Periscope camera remains a key selling point
Vivo has not made major compromises in imaging. On the rear, the S50t 5G carries a 50MP main camera with OIS, a 50MP periscope camera with 3x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide camera.
The periscope unit uses the Sony IMX882 sensor, which adds extra value in a segment where zoom hardware is often limited. The phone also includes a 50MP front camera with autofocus, reinforcing the idea that Vivo still treats photography as a priority here.
Large battery, slim body
Another highlight is the 6,500 mAh battery. Vivo uses silicon-carbon electrode technology to keep the device’s weight at around 196 grams, despite the large capacity inside.
Charging is handled by 90W FlashCharge. That combination makes the S50t 5G particularly relevant for users who want long battery life and shorter charging time in one device.
Pricing and software options
The Vivo S50t 5G comes in two memory versions. The 12GB/512GB model is priced at CNY 3,299, while the 16GB/512GB version costs CNY 3,599.
The phone runs OriginOS 6 based on Android 16. With the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, 1.5K 120Hz AMOLED panel, periscope camera, and 6,500 mAh battery, the Vivo S50t 5G is aimed at buyers who want a strong mid-high-end phone without paying the higher price of the standard model.
