reMarkable has introduced Paper Pure as the new model that replaces reMarkable 2, and the company is making one message especially clear: this tablet is built to be easier to repair. That approach sets it apart from many consumer devices and gives the new E Ink slate a stronger sustainability angle from the start.
The repair-friendly design is not the only thing reMarkable is highlighting. Paper Pure also carries the highest recycled material share in the company’s lineup, with 38% recycled content, while its construction relies on screws and snaps instead of glue.
A tablet built with repairability in mind
That choice of internal construction matters because it makes the device easier to take apart and service. reMarkable also says Paper Pure has a much lower carbon footprint than reMarkable 2, reinforcing the company’s push toward a more sustainable product strategy.
The new tablet is also being positioned as a rival to Amazon’s Kindle Scribe without Front Light, a model that has not been released since it was announced in October 2025. In practice, that means Paper Pure is entering a segment where writing-focused E Ink tablets continue to compete on simplicity, display quality, and comfort.
Display and writing experience
Paper Pure uses a 10.3-inch monochrome display with a 1872 x 1404 resolution and a 4:3 aspect ratio. The panel is based on E Ink Carta 1300 and protected by Gorilla Glass 3 with a paper-like texture.
There is no front light on this screen, just like on Paper Pro and Paper Pro Move. As a result, users will need an external light source when reading or writing in dark environments.
For note-taking, reMarkable lists a pen-to-ink distance of 0.84 mm and a writing latency of 21 milliseconds. The tablet works with the Marker and Marker Plus styluses used by Paper Pro and Paper Pro Move, but it does not support the stylus designed for reMarkable 2.
Hardware, battery, and software
Inside, Paper Pure is powered by a dual-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A55 processor. It comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, with no microSD slot available.
reMarkable says that storage capacity is equivalent to 405 notebooks, and users with a Connect subscription also get unlimited cloud storage. The tablet runs reMarkable OS, a Linux-based operating system.
The software includes handwriting conversion, screen share, Google Drive, OneDrive, and Dropbox integration, templates, and a range of writing tools. Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi and a USB 2.0 Type-C port for both data transfer and charging.
Battery and pricing
The battery inside Paper Pure is a replaceable 3,820mAh unit. reMarkable claims it can last up to three weeks with one hour of use per day.
The package is priced at $399/€399/£359 and includes the tablet, a Marker stylus, a USB-C cable, and six replacement pen tips. A $449/€469/£399 bundle adds the Marker Plus stylus with an eraser at the top and a folio sleeve case.
The folio case comes in green, pink, and blue. Preorders are already open, and shipping is scheduled to begin in June.
