Toyota’s Vios Hybrid EV made an immediate impression at IIMS 2026 by presenting a rare combination in the mid-size sedan segment. It pairs a more upscale appearance with hybrid technology and a claimed fuel consumption figure of up to 32 km/liter on a combined route test.
That positioning gives the model an advantage beyond style alone. It is aimed at buyers who want a refined sedan image while keeping day-to-day operating costs under control.
Hybrid system built for daily efficiency
At the center of the Vios Hybrid EV is Toyota’s fifth-generation hybrid technology, or HEV Gen-5. The setup combines a 1.5L four-cylinder engine, a high-output electric motor, and a lithium-ion battery that is lighter but offers greater capacity.
Toyota describes the car as a Full Hybrid Electric Vehicle with a 1.5L DOHC Dual VVT-i engine and an e-CVT transmission. The combined output is listed at 115 PS and 141 Nm of torque.
That configuration is intended to balance everyday performance and fuel savings. It also allows the car to rely less on the gasoline engine alone, which helps create a smoother and more modern driving character.
Quiet EV driving for urban use
One of the most notable features is EV Mode. In this mode, the car can move using pure electric power at low speeds, making the drive quieter and free from exhaust emissions.

At the center of the dashboard sits a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless connectivity. Together, the two screens give the Vios Hybrid EV a more contemporary digital setup that matches its electrified powertrain.
A premium audio system is also included to support in-car entertainment on both short commutes and longer trips. Toyota further adds T-Intouch 2.0 as its telematics feature.
Through a smartphone app, owners can monitor battery condition, check the vehicle’s parking location, and use Remote Engine Start. These functions are designed to make the car easier to manage in daily use.
Safety remains part of the package
Toyota also equips the sedan with TSS 3.0, or Toyota Safety Sense. The inclusion of driver-assistance technology shows that the model is not focused only on efficiency and comfort.
