Lenovo’s upcoming Legion Y900 13-inch tablet is shaping up as an unusual take on the premium gaming slate formula. Instead of chasing the newest Qualcomm silicon, Lenovo is using the previous-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite, and the move may make the device more appealing to buyers who want strong performance without paying for the latest chip.
The hardware strategy also appears to be paired with an aggressive display focus. Lenovo has indicated that the new Legion Y900 models will feature a 4K panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and a 3:2 aspect ratio, a combination aimed at sharp visuals and smooth motion for gaming and heavy media use.
Performance without the newest chip
The choice of Snapdragon 8 Elite gives the Legion Y900 13-inch a different identity from many premium tablets that rely on the newest flagship SoC. That positioning could also help Lenovo keep the price more competitive, especially when compared with the global Legion Tab Gen 5, which starts at $849.99 and uses Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
That comparison matters because Lenovo may be setting up the 13-inch model as a value-oriented alternative inside the same premium gaming family. The tablet has even been described as a potentially better pick than a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 non-Elite device, provided the pricing lands in the right range.
AnTuTu score raises expectations
Lenovo has also highlighted a benchmark result that draws attention on its own. In a teaser, the company said the 13-inch gaming tablet reached 3,503,138 points in AnTuTu, a figure that is exceptionally high for Snapdragon 8 Elite.
That score sits close to results seen on some Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 devices, which suggests Lenovo may be tuning the tablet aggressively for performance. If that tuning carries over to retail units, the Legion Y900 13-inch could offer consistently strong output even without the newest generation chipset.
Big-screen design in a thin body
The 13-inch model is also being positioned as a large-screen device that does not feel overly bulky. Lenovo says the tablet measures 5.99 mm thick and weighs 599 grams, which is relatively slim for a gaming tablet with this display size.
Lenovo has also shown the tablet running PC game emulation smoothly. That detail reinforces the device’s image as a flexible gaming tablet rather than a machine built only for standard mobile titles.
Two sizes, two different audiences
The Legion Y900 line will come in both 11-inch and 13-inch versions, giving Lenovo a wider reach across different types of users. The smaller model should suit buyers who want something easier to carry, while the larger one is clearly aimed at users who prefer a more immersive screen for longer sessions.
That split makes the 13-inch version the more ambitious product in the pair. It combines a 4K 144Hz display, a thin chassis, and very high benchmark performance, while also leaving room for a more attractive price than devices using the latest flagship chip. Lenovo has not announced official pricing yet, and more details are expected closer to the launch event on 19 May.
