Apple’s iPad Air M4 Splits The Choice, 11-Inch Portability Or 13-Inch Workspace

Apple’s latest iPad Air update is built around a simple idea: give users more power without forcing them into a single size. The M4 model arrives in 11-inch and 13-inch versions, letting buyers choose between portability and a larger canvas for work or creative tasks.

That choice matters because the performance jump is significant. Apple says the iPad Air M4 is up to 30 percent faster than the iPad Air with M3, and 2.3 times faster than the iPad Air with M1.

Two sizes, two clear uses

The 11-inch model is positioned as the more compact option for people who want an easier tablet to carry. The 13-inch version is aimed at users who need more room for multitasking, drawing, or editing.

Apple’s approach makes the iPad Air M4 feel less like a single mainstream tablet and more like a device that can fit different work styles. That distinction is especially important for users who want a premium tablet but also need a display that matches how they actually use it.

M4, more memory, and more headroom

At the center of the update is the M4 chip, which Apple uses to drive the new performance claims. The tablet also comes with 12GB of RAM, a 50 percent increase over the previous generation, which should help when handling heavier tasks.

Apple also highlights a 16-core Neural Engine that is said to be 3 times faster than M1. That extra AI capability supports functions such as object search in photos, note transcription, and background removal in Final Cut Pro.

Graphics gains for creators and gamers

The iPad Air M4 is not only about raw speed. Apple also says it supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing, with 3D rendering performance using ray tracing up to 4 times faster than the iPad Air M1.

It also includes second-generation mesh shading. Apple says this helps deliver more realistic graphics, including in tablet gaming.

Updated connectivity for mobile use

Connectivity also gets a notable refresh. The iPad Air M4 uses Apple’s N1 chip, which brings support for Wi‑Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread.

On cellular models, Apple includes the C1X modem. Apple claims it delivers data performance that is 50 percent faster while using up to 30 percent less power than the iPad Air with M3.

Those cellular variants also support 5G and eSIM, which makes the tablet better suited for users who work away from Wi‑Fi.

Accessories remain part of the appeal

Apple continues to lean on its accessory ecosystem with this model. The iPad Air M4 works with Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C.

Apple Pencil Pro supports squeeze and rotate gestures for more precise control. It also includes Find My support if the device goes missing.

For users who want a laptop-like setup, Apple offers the Magic Keyboard for iPad Air. It includes a trackpad, a 14-key function row, and a Smart Connector connection without Bluetooth.

The keyboard also adds an extra USB-C port for charging. That leaves the iPad’s main port free for other uses.

Colors, storage, and pricing

The iPad Air M4 comes in four colors: blue, purple, starlight, and space gray. Storage starts at 128GB and goes up to 1TB, although the 1TB option is listed only for the 11-inch model in the announced pricing.
